Anyone want to try diagnose me?

Ok here goes: Naturally good at English. I taught myself to read at 4. Good at word puzzles and have a very good vocabulary despite not reading much. Very good at written English.

No sense of direction, can’t make sense of maps or directions and if there are any diversions, new road layouts, I can’t work out how to get back on track. No idea where north, south, east, west are. Satnavs are really distracting for me. I find following verbal instructions whilst trying to ‘read the road’ and stop at lights, junctions at the same time, very difficult. If I don’t go somewhere for a while, it’s like I’ve never been before and I can’t even think which roads are involved. I have to take note which way I enter an unfamiliar building so I can retrace my steps when I leave. No spacial awareness at all. I can’t fasten shoelaces in the normal way and no matter how many times I’m shown, I can’t get the hang of it. Very musical but no sense of rhythm. Can play quite a few instruments. Can’t follow instructions such as turn on to your left side, without really thinking about it. Poor memory - dreadful at foreign language and can’t remember the basics no matter how I try.

I’m dreadful at maths, especially mental arithmetic. Use fingers to add up. I can do maths up to about 6 year old level but no further. It makes no sense to me. Beyond 2, 4, 6, 8 etc I can’t see patterns in numbers. I can’t draw a straight line, measure or cut accurately.

I am very organised, neat and tidy in everyday life. Bills are paid on time, I don’t forget appointments, birthdays, my home is very clean, drawers and cupboards are ordered and I know where everything is. I’m always on time.

i wasn’t premature but was a low birthweight - 4 lbs. Had constant infections as a child. In any IQ tests I’ve done I get about 80. I’ve always felt something isn’t right but was born in the 1960s and was just left to get on with things at school and was in the remedial class for maths and the top group for English. My siblings don’t have any of these traits. I’m sociable and have a good group of friends. Does all this sound like anything in particular?

I'm not sure what you mean by diagnose you, as there doesn't seem to be a health issue or anything to diagnose. Are you in pain or feeling unwell at all?

I'm rubbish with directions too, always have been but sadly getting even worse as I get older!

Why do you want/need a diagnosis?
"Normal" has very wide parameters and, afaics, you fit within them.

Have a look at dyscalculia op

APJ1 · 27/05/2022 06:04

I have dyspraxia and nearly everything you've said is true for me.

Crisscrossquiz · 27/05/2022 10:15

I've had a look at dyspraxia and discalculia and they both seem to fit the difficulties I have. I think I'm just interested to know if there's any reason why these things have always seemed insurmountable as I've not come across anyone I know who finds so many everyday tasks this hard
