3 nights in Tenerife
Self catering
We don't arrive till 8pm on the night 1
Just a hen weekend
How much ?
I'm thinking 350 euros
Will it be enough?

I’d take £500 whatever that converts to in Euros and hope to have some left.

PandaOrLion · 25/05/2022 08:46

I’d take any euros I could find around the house and get about about £20 from as cash point. Then just use my card (monzo or starling) to pay for everything there.

Cocobeau · 25/05/2022 08:48

£300 cash then use your card for larger spends if you need to. I wouldn't want to do small purchases on card as you'll get hit with charges each time.

TokenGinger · 25/05/2022 08:48

I think £350 would be plenty and you'll probably bring some home.

WaterBottle123 · 25/05/2022 08:53

I would take any cash, haven't used cash abroad for years, especially post pandemic.

chipsandpeas · 25/05/2022 09:02

if its a hen do chances are money will be chucked into a kitty so having cash might be better

Only if you have the wrong card. The right card (eg Starling, Monzo, a few others) is charge free and you get a better exchange rate.

OP whether your £350 is enough depends on what you're doing. You could view it as £100 for 3 x big nights out and then some more for lunches, drinks etc, but as for whether it's enough depends on what sort of group it is.

Is it going to be dinner and cocktails in smart venues or something more casual? Tenerife can be as cheap or expensive as you make it.

Will there be day time activities like boat trips or watersports, shopping etc? Beach clubs are sometimes quite expensive if you do that instead of just visit the normal beach.

But anyway, I'd just put a lump of money on my Starling card and then make sure I can access more from my current account if I end up needing it.

redyellowbre · 25/05/2022 09:07

It will be casual
Just little bars /small restaurants on the front
No shopping planned
We may do a boat tour which I proved a 22 euro each.

I think that's plenty. You can always have your credit/debit card with you incase you need it.

PandaOrLion · 25/05/2022 14:44

When are you going? It’s prob worth getting a monzo or starling card if you’ve got more than a fortnight till you go and you can top it up so you can get cash out easily.

Qwill · 25/05/2022 15:03

Get a monzo card, then you won’t have to take any cash or bother getting it changed. Not many places like cash anyway these days, and it’s so easy to transfer money to others with it for a kitty. I’ve not taken cash abroad for over 7yrs now. Less chance of it getting stolen too.

essaytwenty · 25/05/2022 15:09

I’m another who hasn’t taken cash abroad in years and would recommend getting a debit or credit card that doesn’t charge for overseas use.

I just withdraw it from ATMs as and when I need it, just like I would in the UK. I’ve never run out or had loads left over that I didn’t use.

this! I have a credit card that doesn't charge for use overseas and only has a small fee if you withdraw cash on it so I can't tell you the last time I exchanged currency.

Irishfarmer · 25/05/2022 15:17

I'd withdraw €100 when you're there, do it twice if you need to. It can be a slow process paying for lunch/dinner if 10 ppl all want to use their card individually. Other than that I'd tap as I go

I wouldn't be worried about a kitty, do ppl do those anymore? I have honestly never been on a night out which involved a kitty in my life but would have heard of my mum/aunts doing it.

Blossomtoes · 25/05/2022 15:26

Just back from a week in the sun and we got through it on €50 in cash. We paid for almost everything on a card.
