Going rate for domestic cleaner

For context, I am in Cambridgeshire but not Cambridge itself or one of the posh villages nearby, but a standard town.

Could anyone tell me what they pay for a domestic cleaner per hour in a similar location please?

I used to pay £12.50 plus provide products pre covid which was on the more expensive side round here. I have just asked a potential new cleaner their rate and they have come back at £20ph which I was a bit shocked at.

i was expecting £15ish but not £20. I suspect the old cleaner is nearer £15 but the standard of clean had dipped significantly (pre covid) so I am keen to try another cleaner.

Am I out of touch, is £20 really thé going rate now?

thanks for any responses.

Is this a single self employed cleaner, or a company with staff or an agency?

EasterIssland · 24/05/2022 23:34

not your area but in bristol i've had quotes from 13(including their products) to 19 (without their products).

The one i've employed is 15 and uses their products.

I've the feeling that each person is doing their own price, and currently everyone is requesting one hence some are taking more advantage than others

Thanks everyone. I haven't replied yet but am investigating some other options.

It's good to hear that I am not totally out of kilter.

The quote was for 2 cleaners working together as a small business, rather than an individual or a 5/6/7 people business.

I would much prefer an individual, part of the reason we don't want to go back to the old cleaner is that she took on staff and the standard was not as high as when she herself did it. I also wasn't wildly keen to be paying her a premium for the ladies who actually did the cleaning to get a few £ less an hour than I was paying. Individual cleaners seem to be tricky to find though around here.

With fuel costs at the mo and assuming they drive, it doesn't surprise me. I'd pay £20ph for an excellent cleaner though. Maybe do a trial session and see?

DenholmElliot1 · 25/05/2022 10:52

Its £20 an hour in the west midlands

CambsGirl17 · 25/05/2022 17:31

Thanks for further replies.

I think we may end up doing a trial session and seeing where we go from there.

Ours charges £12 an hour + provides her own products which I think is v good value. She’s also incredibly thorough.

Distinctlackofimagination · 25/05/2022 18:38

We could be neighbours! £13.50 here although paid £15 for a temporary cleaner who brought her own products and had to travel.

CambsGirl17 · 25/05/2022 19:38

@Distinctlackofimagination might pm you!!

£13.50 sounds like a good deal.

i just messaged someone of Facebook who was looking for a cleaner and she said several quotes her £12.50-£15 ph. She’s going to send me the details once she has met them!
