Anyone live in a studio??

At the moment I pay an eye watering amount of rent to live in a two bed with a garden. It’s just me and my dog.

Opportunity has come up for me to move to a studio - it’s 35 square metres. Kitchen is separate then there’s. One big room. It’s got great views. The twist is that I could live in the studio for no rent.

It would be for maybe six to eight months.

I lived in a studio way back when for a while when I was a student. But I’m mid 40s now!

just interested to know if anyones made a move like this and how it went??

That sea view + the no rent = no brainer!

it’s not really fair on the dog to be cooped up in a studio

Yes - rent free & a view
What's not to like !

@thevanilla i applaud your dog based concern.

I am a crazy dog woman and am worried about taking him away from his nice doggy friends - at the moment he goes out with a walker three times a week which he loves. But apart from that I’m actually not worried about him - he loooooooves the beaches where the studio is and it’s super dog friendly. He’lol rarely be left on his own and he’ll get good walks.

okay I’m gonna do it - thanks peeps!

I'd definitely do it. What's the worst that could happen? I lived in a shared house for a year without a living room in a bedroom which was about 7ft x 10ft and I just had to keep it tidy really to make it work, but it was cheap and I enjoyed that- almost like you are earning money by making small compromises.... (Obv different situation but the tiny bedroom was where I spent most of my time).

I've done it several times while on work assignments abroad. Absolutely fine, and it was so nice to have such a small area to keep clean. I actually resented moving back into my 2 bed when I came home as I'd forgotten how much upkeep it needed. 😂

My caveat would be to check the soundproofing, especially if it's an old house converted into flats.

I’d do it! Your dog will be fine. He’ll love the beach and make new doggy friends. I used to live in a studio with my dog decades ago. I’d wake up with her on my feet every morning (wasn’t allowed on my bed!).

A lot of 1 bed flats are 2 rooms anyway, just that the kitchen is in the living room and the bedroom is separate. I’d rather have a separate kitchen.

smooththecat · 16/10/2022 21:28

Ooh, just seen your update! Lovely.

Cavviesarethebest · 16/10/2022 22:00

Yep separate kitchen where I have a little table to work at and then in the main room I’ve got the bed and a lsofa and it’s gorgeous.

and no rent 😁😁😁

it’s actually a really good life lesson for me about how much space and stuff I actually need. I’m genuinely not missing my big two bed flat at all!
