Feel sad about wedding photos...talk sense into me

Our wedding was 3 years ago, it was a lovely day and we had the best time.

Recently though as friends get married I regret our photos. We didn't want hours of formal photos so they are a few of DH and I when we first arrived at the venue, one with each of our parents and grandparents and thats it. The rest are lovely, candid of everyone chatting and laughing and having a great time. But we don't have one of my side of the family or DHs side of the family all together.

I will I have a nice photo with my family, siblings, my cousins, my uni friends. If I could go back I wish we had had that half an hour of formal pics.

I know it doesn't matter we were all there, there are photos of everyone and it was lovely. But I do really regret it and recently have been feeling down about it (I know v silly and first world probs). I do have nice pics of my mum and dad, bridesmaids including my sister etc.

Snap me out it please!

Another one who hasn’t looked at the photos in over a decade.

I didn’t want any formal ones, my friend just took some but I was railroaded into standing with all the family for photos - I didn’t want that at all, I took a glance and then shoved them in the loft.

Don't stress about things you can’t change.

I’ve been married 20 years. My photos are rubbish (booked photographer was ill and cancelled on the day and sent a alternative who we had never met & didn’t receive our notes). We’ve looked at them once or twice in the 20 years and I stopped caring that they are shite very quickly, it really doesn’t matter.

GrimDamnFanjo · 23/05/2022 14:58

25 yrs ago my wedding photos were really fucked up. They were terrible. To make matters worse they were taken by a family member who was a wedding photographer.
It took me a long time to get over it. As a child I loved looking through my parents album and it really upset me knowing I couldn't do the same as they were so bad. We ended up without any useable photos.
So I do understand how you feel, but I've got over it in time and with the experience of having a happy long lasting marriage.

Our grandchildren were bridesmaids recently for one of DD's friends, and I was horrified when sent a link to the photographs. There were literally hundreds of them, out of which about 3 stood out as being worthwhile.

I don't get the hype - we've never had a wedding photo out. Been married nearly 30 years.

Why do people pay these photographers thousands of pounds for a bunch of photos they never look at?!

We didn’t. We didn’t have a photographer at all, and we got married in the days before smartphones. A few (low quality) photos were taken on my compact camera and that was it. I don’t regret not having a photographer; we had a small wedding and used the money that we could have spent on the wedding on a house deposit instead.

My wedding photos are rubbish too!
I can sympathize. I wished I hadn't gone with friend of a friend ( because he was cheap and money was tight and I didn't have the internet 32 years ago !)

We didn’t. From memory ours were £165. My parents ended up with none because the photographer lost the negatives. 😱

We had a press photographer take our pics,he was a friend . None posed apart from a couple of dh and me. They're all so natural, we often look at them.

I can do this for you OP!

I have one photo of me wedding which is me standing next to husbands ICU bed after he'd manage to gasp out his vows.

He died 16 days later.

Rejoice in your marriage and lovely natural photos!

(Sorry but you did ask!)

That puts things into perspective💐

We got married last year and our photographer didn't show up, we do have some that family took but most are out of focus or poorly captured. At the time I wasn't too bothered but he died in Feb and now I wish I had a couple of decent photos of a wonderful day.

It’s a passing green-eyed monster. Flick it away.

Blossomtoes · 23/05/2022 16:42

Oh @WaterBottle123 💐

momtoboys · 23/05/2022 16:48

If it makes you feel any better I felt so awkward about having my picture taken that I don't even have a picture of our entire bridal party together. LOL

Echosound · 23/05/2022 17:43

I wish I hadn’t spent so much money on the photographer as I literally never look at them.

DorritLittle · 23/05/2022 17:53

I really disliked my wedding and was really stressed, so on the bright side, at least you have lovely memories, which is the main thing. My Dad died a few years ago and it is not the everyone there, formal family snaps I look at to remember him. In fact I never look at those.

Tbh we had some posed photos. We have some with the whole family. Very few ‘natural’ candid ones.

Do I care? Nope. In 20 years that we’ve been married, I have hardly looked at them. They are not on display anywhere. They are in album at the bottom of the cupboard.
Maybe in the first few years, there was this ‘oh I’ll look at the wedding photos’ but it soon went away (prob helped by two young dcs etc….)
