Too fat

I was always slim, naturally active and had no food "issues". Pre kids I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid which has been difficult to manage with medication and atypical insulin resistant PCOS which has got worse post kids. Thankfully being very active and not having food issues meant my weight remained pretty stable.

Then I had DC1 and suffered birth injuries which meant my active lifestyle was knocked on the head. I became incredibly sedentary, got PND and the sleep deprivation combined with PND and breastfeeding meant I got horrendous sugar cravings and was self medicating with food. I also had DC2 and since having DC1 have gained 5 stone in total.

Recently my birth injuries have massively improved and I'm able to be more active. I'm trying to get back to my old hobbies, however I just tried to get in my canoe and my hips don't fit. I'm a classic pear shape with massively disproportionate hips anyway, but this has come as a real shock to me. I've already got one of the biggest kayaks available! So I tried on my climbing harness - it barely goes past my knees! I'm so embarrassed! DH and I went out for lunch and to the cinema today and the restaurant chair was uncomfortable and the cinema seat was snug. My hips are so fucking big!

I've already massively cleaned up my diet but need to get back to being active, how when nothing I enjoy doing is accessible for me! Argh. I can't run, or do any impact activities, or cycle and nothing weight bearing. So I'm stuck with walking I guess? (I also can't swim). How will I get my hips smaller? They've definitely spread/ widened with childbearing anyway but the extra fat really needs to go. How much walking will I need to do to replace a few hours canoeing or rock climbing? Any other suggestions? - please don't be disheartened if I turn them all down, it's due to the birth injuries!

The diet has improved, but due to the poorly managed thyroid and PCOS it doesn't have the impact it may otherwise do.

Hi @Toofattofunction , how are you getting? You say you can’t swim so would you consider swimming lessons, particularly as you’re a kayaker. It could help if you got into difficulties in the water.

Nave you thought about Zumba or Pilates? Walking is a good start. Get a fitbit, aim for a certain amount of steps and increase your pace. Good luck!

Hello. I'm actually doing really well (for me). I've lost 20lbs and 2 dress sizes on my bottom half. Went to the theatre recently and was fine in the seat. I'm now comfortably a size 16, my size 20s fall down when I walk.

When I say I can't swim, I mean I can't due to birth injuries. I actually can swim but I'm unable to as I leak urine due to my birth injuries. I've been walking and that's helped.
