Molar Extraction

I know similar questions have been asked many times, but…..
I need to be a little more specific.
Has anyone had any experience with molar extractions? I had my lower first molar removed under sedation on Thursday afternoon, it was on a root canal tooth and required a bit of digging-so obviously I’m expecting some longer lasting soreness-but my question is, should it smell??
it was all fine until today, when I kept noticing a horrible taste in my mouth, and then my DS told me she could smell my breath. After some more thorough cleaning and investigating, it transpires that it’s coming directly from the extraction site. I’m partway through day 4 and it has what I assume to be granulation tissue covering it (whitish/greyish/yellowish stuff)
but the smell is unholy! I don’t know if it’s an infection (the pain hasn’t increased, it’s been pretty much the same since day 1) but it smells like a cross between regular halitosis and poop.
Im obviously going to phone the dentists in the morning (even though I worry I’m wasting their time) but I’m the meantime, has anyone else experienced this? Could a bad odour just be part of normal healing?

I had my cracked molar tooth removed 6 days ago. It stank for weeks before the removal and although I wasn't in pain, the dentist said it was infected as he removed it. There's been no smell since and no pain. It's likely your site is infected but best speak to your dentist about getting antibiotics. Are you doing the recommended salt washes several times a day?

Sounds like the smell of puss!
You’ve probably got latent infection in the socket.
Ring your dentist asap. Likely you need antibiotics & a care plan for the socket.
Take care not to swish too robustly after an extraction, could cause a dry socket which is to be avoided. đŸ™„

Thanks for the super fast responses! I’ve been driving myself nuts googling it. Some sites say smell is normal, others say to hightail it to the dentists or your jaw will fall off.
Yeah you’ve both pretty much solidified what I thought/dreaded.
I have indeed been doing salt water rinses, I’ve been following the advice pretty much to the letter because dry socket terrifies me! How I long for a bag of crisps, or a plate of hot, crispy chips-but I’ve stuck diligently to eggs, mash and yoghurts. Today I’ve added chlorhexidine mouthwash to my regime too, but it’s not getting rid of this taste/smell.
