Minimal Washing up meals

We're in a bit of a tricky situation at the moment and need meals with minimal washing up. DCs and I have made this list together. I was just wondering if there's anything obvious we've missed or could try. Or that might be a bit healthier.

Ready Meals (although DD likes only a minimal selection of these - sensory issues)
Jacket potatoes with bbeans/tuna/cheese
Pasta pesto
Salmon and noodles
Baked salmon and potatoes
Pasties and salad
Freezer fries and burgers
Pizza
The odd takeaway

We have no problem actually cooking. We just really need to have minimal washing up for about two weeks.

Wraps/burritos
Chunky soup with meat/veggies and crusty bread

Hugasauras · 22/05/2022 15:51

I do tuna pasta that's just penne in a big saucepan and then mix in tuna, soft cheese and cheddar, so only one pan gets used.

Also the roasting tin books might be useful as they are all one-dish recipes.

Get a slow cooker. There are a million easy quick recipes and one pot to clean.

calmlakes · 22/05/2022 16:57

Tray bakes.
Slow cooker with liner ( not green for long term but low mess)

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/05/2022 17:01

Omelette. Just need one frying pan.

MrOllivander · 22/05/2022 17:03

Anything one pot - chilli, beef stew etc

BabyofMine · 22/05/2022 17:06

I’ll probably get criticised for being not very eco friendly, and normally I’d not recommend single use products, but if you really are in a sticky washing-up related situation (?!) I’d buy a couple of packs of paper plates and bowls as well to avoid washing plates.

Baystard · 22/05/2022 17:10

Have you freezer space OP? You could make and freeze things like lasagne, bolognese sauces etc in the disposable foil trays and then when you are without washing up facilities just defrost, oven and bin when you've finished.

Idhatetolookintothoseeyes · 22/05/2022 17:10

Risotto.
I started with this recipe but now make it even more simple by doing maybe just chicken or just mushrooms, put it in the oven with the rice and some mixed dried herbs/pepper & the 700mls stock and cook as instructed, then throw some peas in for the last 2 mins & it’s done.

The microwave pouches of rice, grains and lentils would be helpful. Also most pre prepped veg n supermarkets can be microwaved in their bags.

MerylSqueak · 22/05/2022 17:20

Thanks for your suggestions.

I've already got paper plates in my Tesco basket @BabyofMine 😀

I can't get a microwave or a slow cooker unfortunately. It's too late to batch cook. We were in a tricky situation that's just turned into an emergency so I'm really caught on the hop (and actually on crutches!)

You can make a diy pot noodle in a jar, flask or similar and you can eat it from the same container.

You just put fine noodles, finely chopped veg (anything like carrots, sweetcorn, mushrooms, peas, cabbage, spring onions etc) chilli, ginger and garlic, ketchup and a stock cube into your container, cover with boiling water and screw on the lid. 15 mins later it's ready.

maddy68 · 22/05/2022 18:01

Slow cooker .one pot meals
Fajittas

KarrotKake · 22/05/2022 18:07

What about tray bakes in disposable foil trays?

AdaColeman · 22/05/2022 18:11

Buy ready cooked chicken pieces and use for Chicken Caesar salad, or sandwiches or wraps.
You can also get ready cooked salmon flakes or salmon fillets, which you could use in sandwiches or salads or stir into pasta with some cream cheese.

Have a couple of toast based meals, with pate or tuna and cream cheese, or cheese & ham on toast, only plates to wash up !

BanditBluey · 22/05/2022 19:15

Shop bought quiche
Microwave heinz lentil curry is nice
Soups
Fish finger sandwiches
Toasties
Those microwave bags of new potatoes
Tesco do a Spanish tortilla that is nice to microwave
Tin of stagg chilli with microwave rice

Cover baking trays in foil or baking paper , then just throw the foil away instead of having to fully wash it up every time

One pot meals sometimes tend to be more stew type which is suited to the colder weather. Risotto is not too heavy and you can make lots of variations. Stir fry is good, also sausage tray bake. Stick sausages, whatever veg you fancy (can even get frozen Mediterranean veg) and some diced potatoes in a tray and bake. Nice with some mango chutney spread over for the last 15 mins or so although that does make the washing up a bit harder. Wraps with salad and chicken, either bought cooked or cook your own to have a hot element to the meal.

MerylSqueak · 22/05/2022 19:57

Thank you all very much. Making a list for my Tesco delivery.

Try one roasting dish dinners. Jamie Oliver's Hit n Run chicken (treble the paprika) for example.
