Very worried about D's who is 8. He's not been himself lately including...

Joint pain and back pain (on one occasion he could barely walk)
Tiredness/needing more sleep
On and off sore throat/sniffles/cough/ not being ill but constantly under the weather (although I'm pretty sure has a chest infection right now)
Stomach aches and has random days where he goes off his food.

He has had mild back ache for a few months but I put it down to bad posture when playing on his Xbox. The rest of the symptoms have come on in the last month. He's just constantly 'not right'.

He does have a vitamin d deficiency but has been taking prescribed high dose vit d since mid February.

He has a GP appointment Tuesday but does anyone have any ideas?

I don't know if it's relevant but not he has SEN.

Glandular fever type
Illness.
Vit deficiency
Long covid

Has he been checked over by GP

LiveintheNow · 22/05/2022 19:27

Possibly coeliac disease?

GrazingSheep · 22/05/2022 19:27

Is he bruising more than normal?

BingB · 22/05/2022 20:30

Glandular fever kind of fits but he hasn't had a throat infection so I don't think it can be that.

He does have but d deficiency but is taking medication for this already.

Long covid is something I'll look more into.

He has a doctor's appointment on Tuesday

He is covered in bruises but always has been.

I don't know if it's relevant but not he has SEN.

Does or doesn't?! Not that it's necessary relevant.

But glandular fever was my first thought.

Long covid is definitely a possibility.

romdowa · 22/05/2022 20:40

Hyper mobility and neuro diversity are very commonly seen together. It might explain the joint and back pain.

BingB · 22/05/2022 20:43

Sorry, he does have sen.

I'm thinking it must be long covid now. He had it about 6 weeks ago but didn't really have any symptoms.

I'm thinking SEN could be relevant if it's something like co ordination that maybe dyspraxia as that's usually accompanied by low muscle tone and poor core stability which could lead to backache and also bowel issues.

But it does sound like covid may be the route cause.

whenwillthemadnessend · 22/05/2022 21:07

Hope he feels better soon

My niece has similar symptoms and it ended up being vit d and iron deficiency

But as he recently had covid. I'd go with that if he was previously fit.

BingB · 23/05/2022 07:36

Thanks everyone. Long covid does sound likely. I can't believe I didn't think of it. He barely had any symptoms when he had covid so it never even crossed my mind. He's got to have yet another day off school as the pain in his legs is bad today and he can't walk properly.

I'd be requesting a full set of bloods tbh. Make sure you mention the bruising.

BingB · 23/05/2022 07:52

Even though I'm pretty sure it will be long covid I'm still definitely not leaving without a blood test. What is significant about the bruising?
