I fear I might have permanently "brushed" off part of my gum! Feeling wanting to cry the entire day!

The thing about gum all started since the first dentist visit after Covid. Being told that I have severe (stage 4) gum disease (irreversible). So very shocked and sad, being told I need to go in every 3 months instead every half year.

I saw her just last month. She said since I started using interdental brushes, it's improved with not too much build-up.

Then less than a month later, 2 days ago, I started having this weird feeling with my upper back tooth (at the inner side). It felt as if something is rotten there (just a feeling, not smell or anything) and my gum became swollen. I used my Wisdom brush (daily bedtime routine) and brushed that area really thoroughly before I went to bed. I felt better at that point and the dull pain seemed to have gone. But the second day, when I woke up, it felt worse. Still the rotten feeling back there and the swollen gum. Especially that feeling that something is off /rotten really freaked me out. Hence last night, I spent about 15 minutes trying to brush off whatever build-up in that corner, ...until I realised that I probably brushed so hard that part of the gum between the teeth has gone, as I could feel the emptiness with a fair size hole between the two teeth.

I then went to Google...and discovered that gum can't regenerate! That's why, I suppose, Stage 4 gum disease is not reversible! And I have probably just permanently removed part of my own gum with my own brush!

I felt miserable the whole day. - On the other hand, after the vigorous clean, my back tooth seemed a lot better and I didn't feel that rotten feeling anymore and the gum seemed stopped being swollen after I tried not to irritate it again after last night...

Do I need to call the dentist for an emergency appointment or not?

For your own peace of mind I would book an appointment with the dentist for them to check as no-one on here can really say what it is likely to be or if you have done any damage. The dentist will be familiar with your mouth and be able to advise. Having said that though, I've previously had a bit of food caught in between my gum and teeth and it swelled up and was quite painful. After a couple of days of brushing, swilling with mouthwash and poking it with my tongue (😆) it dislodged and the swelling went down. Did feel weird though as if something was "missing". But again, best to check with a professional.
