to do, with no equipment, at home, and that gave good results, what would you choose?

Squats

Tinkerblonde1 · 21/05/2022 19:22

I would probably just squat and not by any to be honest.

Tinkerblonde1 · 21/05/2022 19:22

Buy!

TinaYouFatLard · 21/05/2022 19:22

my old PT said squats were the best single exercise you can do.

custardbear · 21/05/2022 19:24

Mix it up too, wide feet, feet hip width, use a band (pushing knees outwards), use weights (or hold heavy items) in your hands/bags, hold hands behind your head ... lots of different ways to do them

actiongirl1978 · 21/05/2022 19:34

Agree squats. I like standing on the handle of my dumbells so heels lifted off the floor. Very effective

PinkBuffalo · 21/05/2022 19:34

Squats

HunterHearstHelmsley · 21/05/2022 19:35

Squats! So many different options.

ehb102 · 21/05/2022 20:10

Squats. If they are too simple for you, one legged squats. If those are easy, fair play to you

nocoolnamesleft · 21/05/2022 20:15

If you only exercise one leg, won't you become lop sided?

Likeli · 21/05/2022 20:46

Leg press. Having your feet higher/lower/closer together/further apart works different muscles too.

bjjgirl · 21/05/2022 21:09

Lunges / jumping or non jumping, pulsing, full - I love a lunge

Interesting @actiongirl1978 does this make them more effective?

pearandsausage · 21/05/2022 21:18

I also read this as which leg would you exercise if only one of them, I'd decided probably my right but wasn't sure why!

Would agree that it's probably a squat though if I was going to do them both

actiongirl1978 · 21/05/2022 21:19

I think it just activates a different part of your glutes. I like to vary pliè and sumo and narrow leg and raised heels. You'll get everything with those.

Plus if you hold weights, even better

catfunk · 21/05/2022 21:23

Squats. With a kid on my back.

UglyModernWindows · 21/05/2022 22:17

I would go for lunges and all of it’s variations. I’ve learned to love curtsey lunges especially. You can also place a yoga block under the front foot for a deeper lunge (a la Caroline Girvan).

ChicCroissant · 21/05/2022 22:35

Curtsey lunges are great, I was introduced to those over the first lockdown! Anything that uses your own body weight such as squats, lunges or plies will work well.

pinkstripeycat · 21/05/2022 22:39

Squats because you can work legs, bum and core by holding it in tight. Also can do low squats, curtsy squats and bring sally is a killer

Nailest · 22/05/2022 00:04

Thanks for replies - I did mean both legs, not just the one :). Squats definitely the front runner. I can’t do the curtesy ones or the one legged ones, my balance is terrible.

You alternate the legs 🤣🤣🤣

YorkshireDude · 22/05/2022 00:06

Climb and descend the stairs. But that's only really viable if you live in a tower block.

What’s bring Sally?

It's the chorus of a Moby sing that gets used as a 'challenge' for push-ups/press-ups/squats. You basically hold the position until the song says 'up' or 'down' then move as instructed and hold again until the next 'up' or 'down'.

I have a dodgy ankle, hip and back so my physio has encouraged me to do squats with my heels raised on something like a triangle block, and holding onto something in front (eg banister, edge of kitchen sink). I also do them against the wall leaning on a Swiss ball. And resistance ones with elastic. I guess that's 3 pieces of equipment, but they're cheap ones! Squats are very versatile, and I love that I've found a way to do them! At my physio sessions I do them on a balance device which is like a ball cut in half with a flat surface where the cut is. More expensive option but makes you work hard!
