Want to learn how to swim as an adult and have a few questions

I would reall like to learn how to swim as didn't learn as a child (parents couldn't afford it).

I have a really high prescription mainly the astigmatism part. What do people do - wear prescription goggles - are they expensive?

Also I am very, very body conscience - what would you recommend to wear?

I swim with my glasses on but I just do breast stroke.

You can buy prescription goggles from Amazon for less than £20, you won't have perfect vision but good enough to get by.

I swim every day, there is a man who comes sometimes who is actually blind. I was speaking to him because I look down when I swim and not forward and crashed into him 🙈

Anyway, he hated swimming before he lost his sight, but loves it now. He said he loves feeling the water, makes him a better swimmer.

I guess I'm saying, maybe you could just use normal goggles and have limited vision? I sometimes close my eyes now and I understand what he means.

And nobody looks at you in the pool, well they don't at mine anyway. When would you go? I swim at 6am and its mostly retired people, who don't give a monkeys what you look like or are wearing.

I get my goggles from prescription swimming goggles and they tell you how to allow for the astigmatism. I wear Aquasphere Eagles as they suit my face shape and last really well.

I like a boy short or legged swimming costume for more coverage that stays put, and Decathlon have a great range

As above, you can buy prescription goggles online for about £20 (not perfect but you'll be able to find the pool and the right changing rooms). Proswimwear is good for legsuits (I like Maru ones).

I use my astigmatism contact lenses and Swedish goggles. Not pretty but nobody's looking!

You can swim in contacts, I’d recommend using goggles (normal ones) on top but you don’t have to if you’re keeping your head out of the water. I would really recommend you do use something for your vision - I learned as a child but found it much easier to follow instructions in a noisy pool once I had prescription goggles.
