So my shopping doesn't seem to be getting that much more expensive but...

...some things seem to be getting smaller. Am I imagining it? Toiletries suddenly feel tiny, feels like there are 5 crisps in a crisp packet, biscuits seem smaller, fruit and veg seems broadly similar, although I'm buying a mixture of fresh and frozen veg, so I haven't noticed it on much, but I have noticed it. But then I wonder am I imagining it? Has anyone else noticed this?

Definitely. The problem is they're claiming they're reducing unnecessary packaging so things will look smaller anyway.

Oizys · 21/05/2022 09:14

Yep they’ve been doing it for ages. Reducing the amount but prices staying same or getting higher.

Yes it's a thing - it's called shrinkflation.

Shrinkflation - thank you - I thought I was going mad. I didn't even know that was a thing. How cynical. How frustrating. It makes me almost as cross as "built in obsolescence".

Packaging - I'm guessing the irony of that is that perhaps they're using heavier plastic to compensate? Don't know. Really bad. I guess I should start buying more from our local grocer. It's just finding the time.

Common purchased items have risen 20% in the last 2 years.

Mirrors my food shops, some items even more.

Not really noticed the Shrinkflation.

I can afford it but how are people who can't going to manage? esp next winter.
