Lucid dreaming

I’ve had lucid dreams since I was child. When I was about 14, I learned how to actually control them which basically involves knowing you’re lucid dreaming. It’s a bit hit and miss but 8 times out of 10, I figure out that I’m dreaming before I wake up.

This obviously has its advantages and disadvantages. I’ve had terrifying vivid lucid dreams that I’m unable to wake up out of. Which comes with it’s fair share of sleep paralysis too.

But when I have good dreams, they are quite entertaining.

Are there any lucid dreamers here? If so, what are the nature of your dreams and can you generally control them well before you wake up or is it usually shortly before awakening?

I'm quite good at making myself dream about what I want to dream about if that's a thing.

I just have to think about the topic for a while before I go to sleep, it only works with movies though as then I already have the pictures in my head.

That’s pretty cool. Is that lucid dreaming? I’m not actually sure. When you fall asleep into the dream you’ve thought about, do you know you’re dreaming? If so, that’s definitely lucid dreaming but with a twist. I can fall asleep and make myself dream and make sure that I know I’m dreaming, but I can’t choose the subject matter. That’s really cool ☺️

Yes and yes but mostly my mi d just runs away with random stuff which is much more entertaining. I have the most detailed dreams and I dream a lot. I always wake up from dreaming so I worry I dont get enough deep sleep.

Yeah mine are a bit like that, I can’t choose the subject matter but once I’m in it, I can choose how events unfold. That’s a really good point you’ve made actually. Is it not proper sleep when you’re dreaming? Because I was snoozing this morning and lucid dreaming and I kept waking up then falling back to sleep into the same dream (which happens quite a lot too), but every time I woke up, I didn’t feel I had actually been asleep. Weird

A few years ago I read that you could train yourself to lucid dream and that you people did this practice languages, play out life/work scenarios or conversations.

Could be handy I thought.

I started looking into it then discovered some chat forums for people that had started doing this but once they had learnt the skill - they couldn't stop!
Exhausted they were.
Wished they could fall asleep and not have long detailed dreams.
It stopped me in my tracks.

I heart sleep, and the occasional dream - but definitely don't want to star in my own film all night every night!

No, when I dream I can't usually tell I'm dreaming.
The only time I can do it "on command" is if I'm having a nice dream and wake up early...I can go back to sleep and continue the nice dream but I usually know I'm dreaming then.
