I'm unexpectedly in London by myself for the day, was here last night with a friend who's had to go this morning.
I am over by Marble Arch currently, any ideas for anything interesting to do, doesn't have to be free, but bonus if it is, thank you!

Do you have a tube ticket? Or you can use your contactless card to tap in and out of every station and only get charged the day ticket rate.

What do you enjoy? Would you like to see filming locations - Bridget Jones house, Borough Market, Old Naval College, Greenwich
Museums - loads!

Skinnermarink · 21/05/2022 08:54

There’s zillions of things interesting to do, but it depends on what you like! If it was me I’d walk down to the National Portrait Gallery then go to Ham Yard for some lunch.

Yes, can do this. We did a boat tour yesterday which was great, so anything similar I would enjoy.
Thank you.

If you like a market, Maltby street is a nice one.

National Gallery, Trafalgar Sq 🚇Charing cross

Where do you need to get back to and when? You can have a lovely walk through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. You could visit the V&A (free), then hop on a bus back into town.

National Gallery is also free.

Much easier walk or a bus there from where OP is.

If you're using the London Underground and aren't familiar with it, I recommend this app. Invaluable!

It’s a lovely day so I would just wander through the parks from where you are: or through Hyde park to south Ken and hit the museums.

DolphinaPD · 21/05/2022 09:15

You could look on Groupon for discounted things to do, if you can use them at short notice.

Wardour Street had some fantastic places for lunch if you have a walk down Oxford Street. You could go to China Town and a walk round soho. Walk down to Coventry garden then to the river and on from there.

Natural History Museum, see the anatomic dinosaur. Still amazes me as an adult.

PortiaFimbriata · 21/05/2022 09:19

Wallace Collection is handy for where you are.

British Library Treasures gallery is always good, and the Stonehenge exhibition at the British Museum is said to be excellent.

I like South Bank. So wander along the Thames and you have Royal Festival Hall, National Theatre and National Film Theatre and can walk along to Tate Modern and up to Tower Bridge. Plenty of street life going on at the weekend - skateboarders and the book stalls will be open.

This is pretty much what I did, though went to the Natural History Museum, had a lovely time.
