@LovelyYellowLabrador I'd suggest she look at environmental science or sustainability of some kind, it's a fascinating, every week is different and the pay will be much better than a primary school teacher.

Geography degree, then she can decide after graduation whether to go for primary or secondary teaching. Or something else.

A niece in the US did a geography degree, but focused after the first year or two on environmental aspects - went on to specialise in those and recently completed a (funded) PhD in that speciality.

If she enjoys History as well, how about archaeology? A lot of the work is about using geographical/historical knowledge of the area to discern whether there is likely to be anything of value at different sites.

I thought there was an issue with Archeology- some departments being closed down, and a real shortage of archeologist jobs? Friends DD has a PhD in archeology as well as a First and Masters, and losts of dig experience as a volunteer/student. She is now training to be a garden designer as she can't get a job in archeology. Someone else is working for one of the conservation charities, but doing a Marketing role.

DD loved geography, but is particularly interested in the the social side of sustainability (under human geography). She's doing a Sustainability Degree - had to chose another subject alongside it and actually chose International Politics (which surprised us). She loves the course and wants to go into the humanitarian side of things when she graduates.

Forgot to say, your DD is still young so she should definitely chose subjects she enjoys. DD ended up with A levels in geography, RE and music, the last two in no way related to her course but she still got five uni offers with a strong personal statement.

Geography is an amazing subject to do as a degree. So many skills and geographers have the best degree courses with field trips etc. In terms of employment, geographers are super employable due to their broad skills set. I know people who have gone into a very wide range of careers - law, retail management, financial services, accountancy, armed forces, planning, civil service (including fast stream), meteorology, GIS and IT, the environmental sector and me - education (but I know geographers in both primary and secondary sectors).

Geography + Biology + Chemistry / Sociology / Economics

Then towards the end of y12 see how she feels then.
