Feeling motivated but clueless!
Early 40s, over a stone overweight.
Feel sluggish and lethargic.
Was having success with Michael mosesly 800 calorie diet so need to get my head back into that or a variation of that.
Find it really hard to provide for the family and think what meals to cook, husband doesn't eat meat. 11 and 14 year olds like completely different food to each other and I want to eat low carb/keto. When I eat that way I feel much better and more energetic.
How can I meal plan to accommodate everyone?
I have 2 freezers full of god knows what but feel like I want to chuck everything out and fill with batch cooked meals to make my life easier.
I get overwhelmed when i think about meal planning and feel as though I want to meal plan and prep my entire week which is too much so I don't do anything at all and just eat rubbish.
I also work from home which I'm finding is making me very depressed and lazy. I do make the effort to meet friends but might start suggesting a walk instead of coffees and lunch as cheaper and exercise too!
So yeh, a combination of stuff going on, any ideas oh wise mumsnetters?

Oh and I also have this stupid, stupid mental block with exercise. I want to do it, I need to do it but I feel like an idiot, my husband is home all the time too and I always think he's going to come and tell me im doing it all wrong or laugh. He never has done this to be fair to him!

Meal planning for 4 people who want to eat different things is challenging to say the least. Don't beat yourself up over it.

You dont' have to find a single meal that will suit everyone x 7 days a week, you just have to think ahead about who is going to eat what and when. You have secondary school kids, the next few years are going to be a bit of an eating jigsaw, don't fall for the happy-family-round-the-table nonsense.

Can you write a list for each person of what they like eating, or even better get them to do their own lists. Can you plan a week around that, even if people are eating different things?

And read some stuff about binging and why people do it.

I have also had an extreme exercise allergy all my life, but at the grand age of 55 I did Couch to 5k and now I run 5k 3x a week and it feels fantastic. There is a very supportive group on Facebook, free apps etc and you can do it from home. Worth a try.

Thank you very much.
I used to love running but had to give up because of awful shin splints, I even get them from walking and driving. It's such a shame as running was also great for mental health.

@Namechangefornow are you me!? Totally understand. I need to batch cook- we have 2 freezers and I feel the same, would like to empty and restart! We have 2DC 6 & 8 one with allergies and 1 just fussy so meal planning is a bundle of laughes!
I also need to declutter, get fit and decorate - all on my list- which I write in the evening whilst eating Dairy Milk 🙄 no excuse for my binging on chocolate and at early 40s I'm piling on the weight!
So my plan-
I'm going to condense 2 freezers into 1 and then batch cook and do dump bags of a few meals ( might portion a few up as everyone different!) My 6 year old will have to conform to family meals or survive on toast I think!
Im attempting to stop the binging- I'm reducing to weekend chocolate only..... that's the plan!
Exercise and redecorating can wait for now and decluttering will be a half term activity!
What about you?

You need to do one thing at a time until it becomes habit. Start by taking a walk every day, whatever the weather, no getting out of it.

I used to get shin splints until I went to a proper running shop and gritted my teeth while they filmed me running on a treadmill. They sold me a super expensive pair of shoes, but cured my shin splints. I now know what type of shoes I need and source them much more cheaply on the internet, last seasons colours etc.

There should be one near you if you Google?

Namechangefornow · 25/05/2022 07:38

Thank you there is one near me but I just can't afford running shoes at the moment. I will go though.

I do need to do this too (again)

sort of out my home office and studio

Nail meal planning again including the fast 800 for me (though the maintenance version is likely fine at this point as I haven't regained too much since stopping)

Walking every day - I absolutely have to do this to keep my blood pressure in check for certain meds I need, plus its great for mental health as well

My grandad died, my mum had a stroke and my daughter got a life altering injury within days of each other so everything has gone off the rails

Oh and just to really help, I have adhd as well and still awaiting medication titration, (likely September) but I'm trying to avoid just waiting for meds hoping they solve everything, I know that isn't realistic so want to get back on the wagon now!

One tip is the very kind and gentle help from KC Davis 'how to keep house while drowing' it really helps in a lot of areas, but I've lost my sodding copy so will maybe get it again for kindle or something. There's a good fb group and podcasts as well

I also recommend Glennon Doyle 'we can do hard things'

Make a list of everything in the freezer. Ask people what they like from that and use it to meal plan. Don’t replace it, you will have some quirky meals for a while!

Then look at meal planning/batch cooking.

One thing at a time.

Farmhouse1234 · 25/05/2022 07:58

Can I join you? I’ve been saying I need to sort things out for ages but not getting round to it. After an upcoming holiday I’m going to be on it!
pS why is it so hard… some people seem to find it easy though… what do they know I don’t?

TabithaTittlemouse · 25/05/2022 07:58

@chickyellowcute bloody hell you’ve been through it! I’m sorry that life is shit.

Thank you yes it's been really hard. Ugh.

This thread inspired me to get started finally on organising my studio and I've made masses of progress surprisingly quickly

I've realised I need much more categories of storage, with clear boxes and labelled. EG I had a box of just 'stuff that connects things' like glue, tape, epoxy, sugru, clamps, pins, bolts, glue gun and sticks etc but I've realised they all need their own boxes if I'm ever going to be able to find anything quickly and be effective and easily put things back without mixing categories. This is a good realisation though I'm getting started ordering more boxes! Thankfully already have enough labels and shelf space

For meal planning, I was a tester for the lollipop app via mumsnet and have found that really good but fallen off the wagon of using it as I fell back on my old Sainsbury's favourites (mostly easy carby stuff) but I really must get back on that
