Going abroad in a week - anything I’ve forgotten?!

Off to France next weekend! First holiday in three years.

Passports have at least eight months on them each, travelling by ferry and have booked tickets and car space. Airbnb booked etc.

Vaccine passports done. All adult family members have had two jabs plus a booster over Winter 2021. Child is four and so doesn’t need a jab.

Is there anything I’ve forgotten logistically?! I’m organising the whole thing myself as my husband works away and I’m going a bit mad with worry that I’ve overlooked something crucial and we’ll be turned away at the port 😫

Thanks for any advice!

We're off to France shortly so prepping as well. There's no longer a requirement to carry breathalyser kits but you need a hi-viz vest for all passengers and a warning triangle. I'm taking proof of car and health insurance too, plus driving licence. Take your EHIC/GHIC card if you have it, although proof of application will also entitle you to the same level of health care as a French resident.

Have fun and enjoy the 🥐

Check out with your car insurance company asap - we've always had to take out additional cover when taking the car abroad. Ensure cover includes repatriation of the car & yourselves in case of breakdown/accident towards the end of your holiday. I know no-one likes to think of that happening but you have to cover that eventuality.

Double check the current requirements for driving in France - things you need with you as mentioned previously ((jackets/bulbs/triangles etc) also driving rules that are different to ours (you often get these on insurance company websites but otherwise Google).

Mentioned by PPs but in case you've missed - headlight adapters are really important.

Make sure you have your photo driving licence with you.

The above are the urgent and essential .

A decent map of the area you are going to. Even if you have sat nav I find a map useful for planning trips & routes.

Look at how much of your journey involves toll roads and maybe start a specific thread on that. Some toll roads definitely worth it . Others less so but I'm not up enough on it now to advise .

You'll be even more ready for the holiday once you've sorted this lot ! Have a great time.

A full tank of petrol when you start.

French language- even a bit is appreciated.

Have a lovely time.

@balalake bien sur, je parle un petit peau francais 😁 je voudrais une bouteille du vin rouge avec tout le fromage s’il vous plait 😁

Merci everybody! Wishing you all bonne vacances in the future!

We're off to France in August so thank you for these tips.

It depends on your car but lots of modern ones have an option to change the direction of the headlights but it always takes me an age with Google and the hand book and lots of stabbing away at dashboard buttons before I find it. Every time.

@garlictwist I've just checked and it was abolished in 2015. Ignore me!
