Noise from neighbour - how to approach

Relatively new neighbour next door so have had limited contact but seem nice enough. For the six weeks or so have had constant sawing / sanding noise. Occasionally drilling. It is outside, and only when dry. Normally starts around lunch time and in to early evening. Often including weekends. I thought they were doing DIY as recently moved, so although was annoying felt was just something to put up with. I mainly work from home and it is disruptive eg have had to leave zoom meetings when I couldn’t hear. We’ve also had meals in doors on sunny evenings when the noise is too much to sit outside.

I’ve now seen posts on a local fb page of a link to a carpentry business with outdoor furniture for sale. Items are photographed in their garden so clearly this is what the noise is.

im happy to talk to them but unsure what approach to take. I don’t want to create a big falling out unless a last resort. Do I have any rights? Should I just put up with it or suggest something specific? Advice appreciated!!

Report to the council. There are rules regarding running a business from home.

I’d say to them, I hope the renovations are finished soon, so we can enjoy our time in the garden in peace. If they tell you the truth that it’s a business, then perhaps you can ask that they only work outside for certain hours.

WFH doesn’t mean you’re entitled for the world to be quiet. Turn the volume up on zoom and let your neighbours live their lives. It’s like me asking British Rail to stop the trains running because I have to work

Presumably you chose to live near a railway line?

Why the actual fuck would you do this?! Just speak to them instead of heading straight to grassing them up.
Maybe they have all their regs in order, maybe they are just trying to earn a fucking living!

OP, talk to them and say it sometimes encroaches on your peaceful enjoyment, but similarly if this is their livelihood, leave them to it.

So is it constant sawing or only when dry?

I'd live and let live, it's a few hours on a dry day to make seasonal items and I can't believe that making garden furniture involves constant noise of any kind.

Let them earn a living and sit in a different room or plug headphones in if you're on a Zoom meeting.
