Has anyone else had a disappearing / vanishing twin pregnancy? (TW)

DD is now 11 but I found out at her 12 week scan that she'd been a twin and her twin had stopped growing around 10-11 weeks. During the scan it was very obvious that there was something else there and I actually thought the twin was a large tumour (the sonographer was really shit and basically ran out of the room and left us not having a clue what was going on).

@Squiff70 I would find this really upsetting and frustrating.

I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant with twins. I've been hyper anxious since I found out at my 6 week scan because everyone bangs on about how high risk twins are etc.

To think that I could lose one of them now is unbearable never mind to lose one then have someone compare to an extremely early miscarriage (not minimising miscarriage in any way as I appreciate that it's a devastating thing to go through)

I was pregnant with my first baby at 15. We found out very early but around 5/6 weeks I suffered awful bleeding/clots. I had an early scan which showed a tiny heartbeat, and a "empty sac". Being so young and naive back then I didn't take much notice unfortunately, it wasn't until my now 13 year old daughter was born, and I looked back over my pregnancy notes I found I was actually carrying twins , but they didn't want to tell me "because of her age". So whilst it is upsetting, because it was kept from me I didn't actually feel a loss or grieve. To reply to a PP, I don't think I would ever tell my daughter she was actually a twin but absolutely understand people who do.

Hi, I’m currently pregnant with twins but only 6 weeks. I know a couple of people that have expected twins but only ever had one. I myself am a twin and i already have a little one 14 months old (i was on the coil so finding out i was pregnant at all was a shock). The thought of having twins terrifies me especially with my partner always working. I feel really guilty for feeling the way i do😞

Hiya @EC15 you’re probably best starting your own thread in multiples.

Being pregnant with twins is very overwhelming - I really feel for you. Especially with another one being so young.

I won’t lie, having twins is hard work but you’ll manage and it can be wonderful too. Seeing them together is the most heart melting thing.

If you’re a twin, is your family understanding? Will they be able to help? Especially as they really “get it”

I know a family friend, now in his 80’s, who had an absorbed twin. It’s in his hip somewhere and he has always had a very slight limp.

I don’t know how old he was when he found out or how he found out (X-ray, scar, extra bump - don’t know).
