Should I get a trampoline for 2 and 3 Yr old

I am considering buying a 8ft trampoline for my two kiddos. My back yard is pretty small but could squeeze it in. Is it good idea?
Im worried about injuries, but thinking they won't bounce that high they are only little?
Also concerned they won't use it as much as I hope, they love bouncing on beds though.
Anyone with younger children have 1?

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for trampoline recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best trampolines page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful.

My eldest two loved it when they were that age, 6 years on (9+6now) and we've had two more. It's an eye sore in the garden and has blown with the wind once or twice. But they still love it.
Some times they go on for five minutes other times it'll last hours. We maintain the netting and make sure the zip is always closed.

My youngest is two, he enjoys sitting on it but doesn't bounce yet.

No they are fucking death traps

Hugasauras · 19/05/2022 21:29

DD is 3 and bloody loves it! She's on it every day. Sometimes she doesn't even bounce, just takes toys in it and sits in there playing. Was well worth the money for us.

My nearly 3 Yr old loves it. Safety net and supervision are a must.

PhilFlute · 19/05/2022 21:39

I think 2 and 3 is too young. I'd wait until they are over 5.

LunaLoveFood · 19/05/2022 21:47

We bought ours 1 at that age and they loved it. They are now 10 and 8 and still love it.

I finally gave in and bought my kids a trampoline during lockdown after they begged for one but neither child enjoys it that much, may have two minute bounce once a fortnight he slide on the other hand has been used loads! They use it for their hot wheels, put it in the paddling pool to use as a water slide.. it’s been worth every penny.

ChocolateHippo · 19/05/2022 21:57

A small slide might get more use.

Jenn500 · 19/05/2022 22:01

I have a slide and they don't use it! The trampoline would take up so much space that it'll be crap if they don't use it! Everyone seems to have 1 though so they must be a good toy in thinking

I worked in theatres and we saw so many kids with trampoline related injuries 😬 I wouldn’t let DD have one. It definitely isn’t safe to let them bounce at the same time (especially since it’s relatively small), something to consider. It’s lower risk if you dig into the ground and sink it - is that a possibility?

12weekstoloseweight · 19/05/2022 22:07

Most injuries happen from a bad landing on the trampoline so nets absolutely do not prevent all injuries - just the obvious ones.

You can’t let them bounce together and you have to supervise them at all times so by buying one you’re signing up to standing in your garden timing turn taking for the trampoline.

I remember friends jumping off shed roofs etc into their trampolines I don’t know how we are all still standing!!!

MagicTurtle · 19/05/2022 22:12

It's been a great investment for us (in terms of hours spent on it).

Luciey · 20/05/2022 05:45

Trampolines aren't recommended for children under 6 for a number of reasons one being their bones aren't fully developed and aren't designed for the strain and force of repetitive jumping. Do your own research obviously, but it's a no for us.

beechhues · 20/05/2022 06:55

They're excellent for core strength - I'd wait til 5 plus though

Sunsetandsandybeach · 20/05/2022 07:01

I had one for my kids years ago, but I didn’t realise how many kids are seriously injured on them (especially when landing on their necks) until my paramedic friend strongly advised me to get rid of it, which I did.

Sunsetandsandybeach · 20/05/2022 07:03

*landing on their heads and snapping their necks I meant

BeautifulBirds · 25/05/2022 22:00

Took daughter, 2yrs 10months, to a trampoline class last week....she loved it. Didn't want to get off.

Dividos · 25/05/2022 22:29

We have one and love it, but a friend's child had a scary accident on it when visiting and it has definitely left me more cautious.

They aren't recommended for little kids though, due to the increased risk of injury.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 25/05/2022 22:30

I wouldn’t for under 6s as a broken leg can be very dangerous in such a young child. If you do get one don’t let them on at the same time.

JeanieGenie · 25/05/2022 22:31

My friend works in children's A&E and made me swear I would never get one.

mnahmnah · 25/05/2022 22:32

Ask any doctor who has worked in A&E and they will say the two things they would never have are a trampoline or a pond.

Bunnycat101 · 25/05/2022 23:01

I think they’re too young as the supervision requirements will be high. I would like one but I won’t contemplate it until my youngest is 5. They are so strict about the trampoline in our gymnastics club especially in the pre-school classes. Very hot on the kids going on one at a time, no adults jumping at the same time. You just can’t police that in the same way at home.

At the age of yours, they’d probably get just as much from one of the mini ones with a handle.
