What to wear for the office. London city centre based!

I'm starting a new job that requires me to travel to London twice a month. Head office is near London bridge and is a 15 minute walk from the tube station.

What do commuters wear that's comfortable, especially on their feet? In previous office based roles I've worn heels but I don't fancy that with trains and longish walks! How do I look smart but ensure I'm comfy?

Trainers with heels in my bag is my standard go to, or brogue type patent flats

Trainers for the commute + offices shoes in your handbag? I bought these recently which are comfy and lightweight and look smart I think!

I wear trainers for all but very senior or customer meetings, no one has batted an eyelid at trainers in the office/team meetings. How formal is your place of work?

I haven't dressed particularly smart for years even pre covid. I worked in the City and was pretty casual. Always flats, fteb trainers. Post covid, everyone is even more relaxed.

It's not very formal so I think I can be smart casual (I hope). For my interview I wore trainers and put heels in my bag that I changed into when I got there but I was wondering if this was the done thing or not.

I'm clueless as how to dress in general for office work, I've been wearing a uniform for the last 5 years!

I'm in full time and wear trainers every day. I have work shoes at work and change into them. Most people do the same tbh especially the older ones of us who can't walk 20 mins in non trainers without fear of buggering our feet up!!

So like, what would a typical outfit be for you?

This is me! I already have sore soles from years of being on my feet 12 hours a day so I need to be kind to them

I was I. The office the other day in the City. My boss was wearing leopard high top converse, I was wearing Stan smiths, I didn't see a single heel. Things really have changed.

Mw19 · 19/05/2022 20:07

Interesting. I'm even more confused now 😂

Another one for trainers on the commute, smarter shoes in the office - forget heels. Especially if you might have to stand on the train tube too.

If I'm wearing a dress, it would probably be one of my comfy Hush ones or a plain jersey Boden one as opposed to a corporate shift type dress (I have loads of those from years ago just gathering dust next to a bag of unworn heels!) with boots in winter, flats or my Stan Smiths in summer. Often I wear smart jeans and a blouse or t-shirt. Again with trainers.

I'm just outside the City now so it's even more relaxed but some people rock up in beaten up jeans and ancient tshirt. I wouldn't go that casual though!!

If you don't want to wear trainers but aren't into heels, maybe brogues?
Or, unless it's really too warm, flat ankle boots.
