Hopefully people will be able to find the new thread, sorry I didn’t manage to get the link in before the old one was full.

Hello. Checking in. Not sure I saw the old thread but I am hosting.

I have an active admin spreadsheet for the stuff they need to do, which seemingly doesn't get completed quickly as applications lead to appointments!

Just seen somebody else has also started a thread so here’s a link to that one instead HfU new thread

Glad I've found this new thread. Hopefully others will too. Been a good day here today - yesterday I helped my guest with her CV. Today she printed it out, took it round a few local shops and came back with a job offer from the local Co-op, to start next week! I think that's pretty impressive when you've had to move to a new country with only a suitcase, hardly speaking the language and so much to sort out. Really pleased for her. 🙂The manager was Hungarian apparently and supportive of new arrivals from Ukraine. She's planning to do this coop job part time on top of her WFH job from Ukraine, though she'll earn more from it - despite it being minimum wage and only 20 hours a week - the exchange rate for Ukrainian money isn't good at all currently.

Thanks for starting the new one @TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Hello, my guest applied for her visa two weeks ago. Still waiting. Thanks for the thread.

Apart from house prep (which should all be fine) what else could I be getting ahead with?

Fireyflies · 03/06/2022 18:26

@SheSaysShush - try to sort her out a UK SIM card if you can. There are some charities offering them but delays in them arriving. Also, depending on her needs and where you live - laptop, phone, bike, bus passes, etc. There are local charities help with many of these. Have a look for local FB pages or local groups and join then and send links to your guests to join too. Clear space in the kitchen for her - cupboard, fridge, freezer space. Download Say Hi app to your phone (very good for translating speech). If your guest has kids you can contact local schools to see where has space. Once she has a travel date, tell your council and ask what the arrangements are for them giving her the £200 cash payment.
