What could be wrong with me?

I have had on and off nausea for over a year. Before Christmas I had a suspected attack of acute pancreatitis but my gall bladder scan came back normal so no more was done.

I have been feeling sick since Saturday and I have stomach pain and heartburn. I am unable to eat anything and just feel really week.

I have a GP appointment for 4 weeks time. I’m not sure what to do next. I can’t continue like this for that long.

You can still have a diseased gallbladder even if nothing shows on the ultrasound. I have the same problem.

I found that following a non irritating diet with no spicy food, coffee, acidic drinks and plenty of vegetables and healthy foods helped. Stay off greasy foods like sausages, burgers etc. I take about 20mls of olive oil and lemon juice together can help. Stomach acid can also irritate things and you can buy Zantac at the chemists to help with that. Drink a lot of water to dilute stomach acid. Eat regularly and don't go for long periods without eating.

Stress and anxiety.

My recent panic attack was mistaken for a gallbladder attack.

It could be hormonal. I have endometriosis and often get digestive issues. I’m also peri menopausal and have had nausea before HRT.

No you can't. You can't buy ranitidine (Zantac) anywhere. Nobody's been manufacturing it for about 4 years.

You can buy esomeprazole (Nexium) at the supermarket, though.

Sorry, 3 years. I've lost track of what year it is.

TheGlitterati · 18/05/2022 19:56

High stomach acid.

midlifecrash · 18/05/2022 20:01

IBS, allergy, tapeworm

itsalwaysfriday13th · 18/05/2022 20:03

I've had this. I've discovered I get nauseous when I'm hormonal or suffering anxiety. Heartburn could be either to.

Oh, I didn't realise this.

Thank you for replying.

I am really struggling at the moment and not sure if I should go to the walk-in centre because it is so long til my GP appointment and I am not sure what to do.

I lived on ranitidine when I was pregnant and now I can’t get it anywhere so that is interesting to note.

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease recently after decades of stomach/digestive issues that were passed off as IBS. I would have everything tested if I was you.

Gwenhwyfar · 18/05/2022 20:54

I've had bouts of this and always put it down to stomach acid regurgitation.
I take omeprazole, but my dr thinks it's making things worse long term so I'm cutting down. It's also linked to sinus issues in my case.

orangetriangle · 18/05/2022 20:56

my daughter has this and after lots of tests turns out it is anxiety causing it also pains in back as well

PearsandPartridge · 18/05/2022 21:28

Oh OP, I feel for you. I had this around 6-7 years ago for months. Constant nausea and bouts of diarrhoea with stomach pain and heart burn. I stupidly went down the google rabbit whole and was convinced it was something sinister. That's why I kept pestering the GP.

But all they said that it was anxiety and stress when I knew it absolutely wasn't. Then they said it was acid reflux which I also knew it wasn't as I had had that before. I mean there was heartburn, sure, but that wasn't the cause and the main issue. I was on omeprazole for weeks which didn't help, I also had ultrasound which again, got me nowhere.

I was finally diagnosed with H. pylori infection. I was on 3 different types of antibiotics for 2 weeks and I finally got better! Not had anything remotely similar since...

I'm not saying that's what you have OP, just saying that you should keep pestering the GP until they find a solution. I did go to the a walk-in centre twice and was brushed off with anxiety there too and told to contact my GP.

Sometimes it's really frustrating when they don't listen. The only reason I was stressed and anxious because they didn't take me seriously for nearly 6 months.

I hope you get to the bottom of it OP. Wishing you well.

@WilliowGreen wow. I don't think they prescribe it now because of the risks.

WilliowGreen · 18/05/2022 21:55

H. Pylori causes stomach ulcers doesn’t it? I am sorry that that was your experience.

I am going to go to the walk centre first thing tomorrow.

Oh my goodness what are the risks? I was prescribed this in pregnancy and took it every single day.

There were small amounts of impurities in the drug that were found to increase with storage time at temperatures above normal room temperature. It couldn't be guaranteed that the levels were safe in ranitidine products in circulation and the initial amounts couldn't be reduced without changing the manufacturing process. It all had to be recalled in 2019 and the manufacturers stopped production.

As far as I'm aware, it's one of the main causes of stomach ulcers but not every infection will result in ulcers. I didn't develop any.

Coeliac disease or gluten intolerance.

ZeppelinTits · 18/05/2022 22:32

Gluten makes me feel like this.
