would you call Dr about this - DS

DS (13) has been unwell since Sunday, he started vomiting and had a high temperature and this went on for a couple of days. He's now stopped vomiting but still quite not, zero appetite and now hasn't eaten anything since Sunday morning as says he still feels really sick. He perks up with Calpol but still definitely not right.

Would you call Dr or wait and see?

Yes, won’t do any harm in getting him checked out.

watermelonsugar11 · 18/05/2022 10:04

Yes, I would get him checked out. There's a brutal sickness bug going round at the minute, my cousin spent 2 days in hospital on fluids because he was severely dehydrated as he couldn't keep anything down for days! Won't harm him getting checked out x

Intrigueddotcom · 18/05/2022 10:10

Still getting a temp?
but fact he’s stopped vomiting is good sign
do not worry about appetite
lots of fluids and i reckon he will feel substantially better by tomorrow
he is probably feeling weak and fragile post vomiting

Sound like it’s the same thing, although me and DD are totally fine. No symptoms at all. Thank you all for your advice.

Could he manage some dioralyte or similar, to help replace lost salts etc from vomiting ? Food wise, crisps/pringles and ice lollies were always popular post illness and a good way of getting salts and fluids back into them.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 18/05/2022 11:14

A GP once told me to avoid dairy for a few days when DS had a stomach bug for five days, not sure of the science behind it.

TequilaShot · 18/05/2022 11:15

Yes, he might be dehydrated. Hope he feels better soon

Seedoftime · 18/05/2022 11:19

Try a rehydration sports drink. We were also told by GP to avoid dairy for few days after a sickness bug.

Oh lord, he’s just vomited again after eating something. Think will def call the doctor. Thanks all.

Yes now I would

RuthW · 18/05/2022 11:58

Personally I wouldn't at his age. It takes me 7 days to get over a sickness bug. As long as he's drinking I would review in a few days.

If you do ring for an appointment it's the nurse practitioner you need to see, not a doctor.

moomintrolls · 18/05/2022 13:05

I'm not sure what a GP could be expected to do?

I'd be waiting this out as it would seem like a stomach bug to me, which we've all had once in the past few years. Not nice but rest and listen to the body re; fluids and food.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/05/2022 13:08

I wouldn't. I'd be giving plenty of fluids and rehydration sachets and starting on Rich Tea biscuits or the like.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 18/05/2022 16:46

Is he managing to keep fluids down without vomiting ? room temp ones are better if the stomach is feeling really sensitive and just sipped regularly. I would still get him to try nibbling or even just licking some crisps if you have no dioralyte or you can make some simple rehydration fluid, there are a few recipes on the internet.

Does he still have a temperature ? Does he have any pain anywhere ? Does he also have diarrhoea ?

Wrongkindofovercoat · 19/05/2022 11:10

@newlabelwriter how is he doing today ?

picassobride · 19/05/2022 23:25

Get him checked asap, the strange strain of hepatitis doing rounds should be eliminated.
