Has anyone had composite work on their teeth?

Dd is nearing the end of invisalign treatment to straighten her teeth. Results are very good so far but she is a bit unhappy about the size/shape of a couple of teeth and the orthodontist has said to fix that would need composite treatment.

Has anyone had it and were you happy with the results?

Place marking with interest as I have been told the same thing!

Blaziken · 17/05/2022 15:52

Is this basically white filling on the outside of teeth to change the shape? I have it on my front teeth. It was straight forward and I love the results. I was told it wouldn't last forever but I've had it a few years and had no problems.

Ds1 had it last year to rebuild parts of his teeth

looks great, you can’t tell where his teeth end and the composite begins

Not yet, but I'm on my last Invisalign today and I have composite bonding booked for June after I've completed my whitening.

8 upper teeth and 6 lower. My teeth are fine, they are a bit uneven on the lengths. I can't wait! The results look amazing on patients my dentist has worked on.

Thank you, this is good to hear!

I have it on my front teeth as they were shrinking...i wont lie my teeth felt massive at first and it took a bit of getting used to, however now i love them and you cant tell, im just wary of eating/biting into any really hard food incase they crack 🤣

katseyes7 · 17/05/2022 16:21

A few years ago l had broke off the entire biting edge of a front top incisor which was very thin on the edge. Dentist suggested composite.
And the one next to it, which she said was also very thin on the edge, and would go sooner or later, so she did that one with composite as well.
I broke them (l kid you not) in total, about eight times. Had to keep having it redone, which to be fair, according to my dentist, was because it was 'such a small piece'.
Finally had both veneered, which have lasted very well.

The composites looked great, they just weren't strong enough for the small repair l needed on my biting edge. You couldn't tell they weren't my 'real' teeth.

same, mine were slightly chipped and was recommended composites. Mine have cracked off a couple of times as the composite is very thin and they're the teeth I use to bite things like apples and raw carrots with!

theemmadilemma · 17/05/2022 16:31

I have a composite to fill a chip on my front tooth. I had it replaced recently, I think it had probably done over 10 years by that time.

I would say you might in certain areas get a slight additional plaque build up around the edges of the composite, but that is easily kept on top of and I bet DD doesn't mainline coffee and fags.

ThreeRingCircus · 17/05/2022 16:33

Years ago at secondary school I fell over and chipped my front tooth, the dentist repaired it with composite and it's lasted 22 years so far! You wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't my real tooth if you didn't know.

Bobbins36 · 17/05/2022 16:35

Yes! After Invisalign treatment and some much needed implant work. Delighted with results, very natural and much nicer than the fake veneer look - would recommend 👍

Glittertwins · 17/05/2022 17:27

Yes, both of us have had it done on top front teeth. Shading done to match the other teeth and they are not noticeably different in size to the originals, the dentist did a very good job.

HollowTalk · 17/05/2022 19:37

Can I ask whether this dentistry was private? I've started to use a private dentist but the NHS one I used before wouldn't have offered anything like this.

kitkatkaytie · 17/05/2022 19:43

I had it done and I loved it! Just wish I'd had it done years earlier. It took 2 hours and totally changed my smile.

kitkatkaytie · 17/05/2022 19:44

Ps I can answer any questions!

Purpleavocado · 17/05/2022 19:46

I have 9 weeks left on my invisalign and am planning on gum lasering on one tooth and bonding on two teeth. I can't wait to be done!

Squashpocket · 17/05/2022 19:48

I had composite on my canines to make them look like incisors (which are missing) in 1996 and they're still going strong. Just look like my normal teeth, you'd never know :)

Private.

For my 6 month Invisalign and composite bonds (8 upper and 6 lower) it's just under 9k (boak)

I've been saving for years though as I've always wanted it done. Obviously one or two teeth and no Invisalign is much MUCH cheaper

Fernsinthegarden · 17/05/2022 20:59

Yep, wished I’d done it years ago too, absolutely love how they look. Would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat.

queenie2016 · 17/05/2022 21:08

Yes I have one front tooth was slightly longer than the other I love them ! My dentist is amazing though up north but rivals with Harley street dentists goes to USA a lot for extra training be sure to go to someone good I've seen some terrible ones done .

declutteringmymind · 17/05/2022 21:14

Dentist here. Composite bonding is a great first option as it is kind to your natural teeth, and much cheaper than veneers. There are so many ways of doing it so
Make sure you go to someone who is recommended to you and shop around even if it means paying consultation fees. Composites do need touching up and redoing but they can be refreshed really easily and relatively inexpensively whereas ageing veneers can look awful and cost the same again to replace.

catandcoffee · 17/05/2022 21:15

How do they prepare the teeth for it.. do they have to file some off first 🤔

Awkwardusername · 17/05/2022 21:19

I decided against it as if you ever get your teeth whitened, the composite bonding won’t whiten. As a coffee and red wine drinker, I thought it might be best not to! Just something to consider!

Got mine whitened and then bonding matched to that 👍

I had mine done yesterday. 7 months of Invisalign, 3 weeks of whitening and 7 hours in the chair (I had 16 teeth done) they prep the teeth by sort of filing them (not to file them down) but to make them easier for the adhesive / bonding to stick to. Here's mine and I'm in love with them. No drilling or shaving? All my own teeth underneath too.

Has anyone had composite work on their teeth?
