what does it mean when an airport shows multiple flights all going to the same place at the same time?

Are there actually multiple flights all going enmasse or are all the flights amalgamated into one flight? And as they are all different airlines how do they choose which plane to use?

I noticed this as I fly from Manchester on 7th June and there appears to be 10 to 15 flights all going to Amsterdam at 5.55am

Code sharing.

Sounds like it might be due to codesharing. Airlines often have an agreement in place that they can sell seats on reach others planes which gives mutual benefits to both (or many) parties.

Quite common to see on internal UK flights that are being used by bigger airlines that don't operate internal flights.

Ah thanks guys! I have been wondering about this for a while and now it makes perfect sense 😊

i think logistically, even if 2 flights went to same place on same day, they would schedule then at different times, even if by 5 mins.

Anything else would lead to major confusion (and i have seen BA and Virgin flights to new York from Gatwick both leaving within 5 mins.)

That's what I thought with what appeared to be 15 flights all leaving at the same time. It would cause mayhem
