Passport - Italian wedding certificate

Hi, I have applied to renew my passport and have changed my name due to getting married (8 years ago 🤦‍♀️) I sent off my Italian wedding certificate (got married over there) with the old passport and applied on line. Had an email from the passport office saying I need to prove my change of name. I’ve had a look and it seems like I need to certify a translation of the Italian into English. Has anyone done this? Who on earth can certify it for me? Also, the passport office have my only copy of the marriage certificate, they will have to send it back to me - how long will this take?!?
many husband and I sent out applications off at the same time - he received his new one within 2 weeks. I’ve just had this email today!

You’re going to need it notarized or similar. I don’t know the name of it in the UK, but we’re having to do the same trying to get certificates from the US verified for passports for Portugal, we need to get them apostilled

it’s basically this, but you need the Italian version

It might be quicker to change your name by deed poll here…

Is your marriage Cert not multilingual? My brother got married in Italy and his is multilingual already?

@Dramateacher1 Did you manage to sort this out? I was just googling to find out the same thing and found your thread. We married in Florence and have the translation on the back as @Watapalava has said above. I'm currently on a web chat but no users available! I'll update on the thread if it helps! Good luck :)

You need someone who speaks the language to translate the document for you (you can use a translation service for this - Google will help you find your nearest one!) The person who translates the document will then have to do an affidavit to swear that the translation is true. It's a really common thing for a translation service so they will know what you are talking about and will do all the paperwork for you.

If translation is on it it’s fine

dB has used his to renew as long as English is on there it’s ok

I’m wondering if Italy is like Albania? They have two certificates- national and international. The international is in multiple languages. We then had to take it to be notarised in another office whilst over there. I'm confused how you can do that here - maybe the Italian embassy can help?

German her, I have two marriage certificate plus two name change documents. One set is in German, the other International so in English, French and German.

You need a certified translator, they have authorisation to certify an translation which is then accepted by the authorities. If you live near an Italian consulate or embassy they may be able to help or give you a list with translator in your area,

I sent off my Italian wedding certificate for my new change of name passport 4 years ago and it was fine?
