Ghost pepper salsa - stomach pain. Anyone get this from really spicy foods?

I say stomach but really I guess much lower down in the abdomen, just a weird feeling of unwellness. Ate a regrettable amount of very hot ghost pepper salsa last night - it was delicious but probably the hottest thing I've ever eaten. Am a bit sad it's making me suffer today.

Anyone else get pain after intensely hot food?

I'm a complete chilli head, I eat ghost and Caroline reaper hot sauce pretty much every day. Occasionally though I get a reaction like you describe, or like a burning in my stomach lining area. It doesn't happen often, and I dont know why sometimes it does happen.

In my experience you'll probably have some errr burning next time you have a shit and then feel better, sorry Grin

Oh I meant to say some ice cream or a milkshake will probably perk you up too

It's not a surprise, surely?

Have a look at what the chemicals in chillies do to you? Your stomach lining has been assaulted... it's bound to be uncomfortable!

@TibetanTerrah I am in awe at your Carolina Reaper eating Shock

I thought I was quite tough when it came to heat, but this ghost pepper has changed my mind! Ice cream sounds like a good shout, thank you for the tip.

It is though, a bit! I've always enjoyed really spicy food, can eat hot curries when out etc and never had any ill effects.

That was just me being naive though not realising how much hotter things could get Grin

Your bowel will be working overtime to try to eject what's aggravating it. That's normal, most people's bodies do the same.

I love my spicy food but I do get this occasionally. Milk helps me

Did the salsa have actual seeds in it? Sauces with seeds seem to effect me worse than when they're blended into a smooth sauce iyswim.

Of course other people get up, chili isn't meant to be consumed in competitive quantities it's a gut irritant.
