Why would selling solicitor refuse to tell me the number of notes of interest? Anyone with legal knowledge around?

If we put in a note of interest and a closing date now set. I called the selling solicitor to ask how many other notes of interest and they wouldn’t tell me. They said that as we have a note of interest all correspondence needs to be through solicitor. But I don’t think this is legally a thing? Does anyone know? I can’t get hold
of my solicitor so not sure what to do.

Scotland yes?

I would tell people how many there are but I know some agencies will only deal with solicitors.

If you are in Scotland then yes it is commonly done solicitor to solicitor. You have instructed them to act on your behalf.

If your solicitor is unavailable can anyone else from their office help? It is quite normal in my experience for paralegals or admins to sort this kind of thing out.

A solicitor will only speak to the person/company instructing them. Unless it's particularly legal advice needed or something complex, the secretary will easily be able to help you.

The solicitor on the other doesn't even have to take your call or answer your email as he is not your solicitor. He is acting for the other side and is only answerable to them. He will only deal with your solicitor. The legal world would go crazy if all solicitors had to take calls and answer questions of random people they are not acting on behalf of.

Sorry I should have said not actual solicitor just the person who answers the phone at the estate agent part of the solicitors. In the past when viewing houses if I phone to book a viewing I ask if they have any notes of interest and they have always told me. So was just surprised when I wasn’t told this time.
