Is a and e advisable?

So I'm awaiting gallbladder surgery, pre op is at the end of month, don't have a date for the op. I keep getting waves of pain and feel sick, I have had this for a few days, when it comes it, it is so painful. I have been admitted twice with my gallbladder once with binary colic and secondly with a infection in my gallbladder! I just don't know whether to try and get on with it, or go to and e? Any suggestions

Why not call NHS 111 and ask their advice first?

packedlunches · 16/05/2022 12:49

Can you call your GP and ask for an urgent call back?

EgonSpengler2020 · 16/05/2022 12:53

Have you tried OTC pain relief (paracetamol, ibuprofen) and/or all the pain killers you have had prescribed for this condition, to the max dose on the pack and at the intervals recommended on the pack/prescription, and given them time to work?

If yes, then go to A&E for further pain relief
If no, try some pain relief for your pain, as that is all they will do for your pain in A&E as you are already on a waiting list for surgery.

Thanks, I have taken pain relief and spoken to reception at doctors- nothing left for today!

If it's that bad I would tell them that you are in a lot of pain and need to be seen. I've done it before and they've managed to fit me in at the end of the day as an emergency.

dontgobaconmyheart · 16/05/2022 14:03

I would call 111 and ask for advice, I think that is the done thing these days rather than turning up at a&e.

I hope it subsides soon OP.

KangarooKenny · 16/05/2022 14:06

I think the op is usually done within so many days of the pre-op, as the blood results only last so long.

Thank you all tried a bath which hasn't worked and also been sick, last time I rang 111 over my gallbladder they wanted a ambulance to come, I live 2 miles from hospital so said no, just don't want that happening again

If there is no relief after several hours of pain you should go to the hospital , just to check its not stuck in the tube and be given stronger pain killers

BIWI · 16/05/2022 15:48

But that was last time @hourur! Why not call them again this time?

packedlunches · 16/05/2022 23:11

How are you now op?

hourur · 16/05/2022 23:36

I'm in a chair with a drip and antibiotics, as no beds in my hospital. It's inflamed rather than infected so one thing that's good!
