Hello!

Ive been fortunate to get through to a band 4 admin interview next week.

Does anyone have any experience of the "excel test?" I was thinking of trying to brush up on excel (my knowledge is basic level 2 stuff) and look at some videos -but im a bit worried I'm out of my depth.

Any other band 4 pointers!? Ive come from a different career so its a lower paid job but its part time and looks intereting.

I worked at band 4 a few years ago, I think the interview was in 2018. I had to sort some data as part of the excel test and there was one bit where I knew I needed a pivot table but due to nerves I completely forgot how to do it. However in the interview I said that I knew I should have used a pivot table. If you can learn them before the interview it would be helpful, and perhaps vlookups. There are tutorials available online. Potentially have a read around freedom of information requests as well.

Thanks so much. Ive just watched a filter video. Ive watched a pivot table but still not sure if Ive quite got it.

Do i just do what i can and in the email to send it back explain how Id tackle finding out what I dont know?

Agree it seems a lot for the salary! But the job does look interesting!

I'd make sure you can do pivot tables, v-look ups and basic calculations and formulas, if statements etc

Im so not tollowing the vlookup video 😥. I might be able to do pivot table.

If make sense but I might make a crib sheet for the layout of the formula.

I am thinking I am going to fail this. Its a job a lot less than my prekids salary amd I can't do it 😥 . I said I could use m/soft as I do everyday in my work but not q these functions.

Vlookups are quite hard to remember what goes in each box. If nothing else remember you would use them to join 2 tables. So for example you have a list of patients that attend Clinic A. You want to find out which of those are on Dr B’s surgery list. Use a unique identifier eg hospital number to pull the info together.

No, don't think like that. You are doing a lot of prep by the sounds of it which is excellent. Interviews can be daunting as it's the unknown, but if you are prepared as you can be it will help massively.
With the 'tell us about yourself' question remember they don't want to know what you do in your own time, it's work related so give them a brief overview of that. If they want to know something personal about you they will ask.
I got asked in an NHS interview once, what superpower would you like...I wanted to say what a ridiculous question and I can think on my feet as that's really what they wanted to know, but I answered it.
Good luck!
