Do they usually pass out?

No, but won't be far off. Why?

Andromachehadabadday · 15/05/2022 16:09

Not always. Mum was going blue before the ambulance arrived and was conscious when they got there.

she did then, unfortunately, have a massive heart attack and die. But was definitely still conscious when she going blue

watcherintherye · 15/05/2022 16:12

If anyone you are with is going blue or passed out or you suspect they are short of oxygen - ring for an ambulance.

DeanStockwelllsBunny · 15/05/2022 16:14

No , my fingers , nose tips of ears go blue when I am cold or inactive for a while but that's down to v poor circulation.
However if I saw my look onsomeone else I would be very concerned.

Why do you ask ?

oakleaffy · 15/05/2022 16:15

I have seen a baby (Caucasian ) go a leaden grey/ blue colour breath holding-but only on a video.
It was a ghastly.
Thankfully the baby began to breathe again and colour returned to his face.

If someone is going blue, I’d assume blood isn’t getting oxygenated.
I’d worry.

Onelove666 · 15/05/2022 16:16

As my mother doesn’t believe I could have been blue without passing out. My lips and face were blue

No. I mean, people who pass out because of lack of oxygen will be blue but you can have blue lips struggling with breathing say but not close to passing out. They still need emergency help though. Why?

FourTeaFallOut · 15/05/2022 16:16

Ah, x-post.

bloodywhitecat · 15/05/2022 16:17

DD is often a lovely shade of blue when her asthma strikes but she doesn't pass out.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 15/05/2022 16:18

I've never passed out or gone blue due to lack of oxygen even when I've been rushed to ressus in hospital.
I have brittle asthma.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 15/05/2022 16:19

DB used to go blue when we were kids - if he was concentrating on doing something he'd hold his breath, not on purpose.

I remember our childhood being liberally peppered with people shouting 'DB name! BREATHE!!!'

FourTeaFallOut · 15/05/2022 16:20

Yeah, my lips can go blue and get that weird hue when my breathing is bad - by which point I'm already in hospital but I can still talk - not a lot mind.

LondonQueen · 15/05/2022 16:29

If someone is blue I'd suggest you ring an ambulance.

Nietzschethehiker · 15/05/2022 16:30

No you can absolutely have blue lips and impacted oxygen without passing out. The human body is far more complex and has many checks and balances not to mention differentials between the way two different bodies respond.

Georgeskitchen · 15/05/2022 16:37

There was a boy at my school who had bluish lips.
I think he had a heart condition

picklemewalnuts · 15/05/2022 18:23

@Onelove666 do you know why you were blue? Have you had the medical attention?

Assuming it's resolved, I'm sorry about your mum. It hurts when the people we want to look after us, can't do so.
