Bell tents

I'd like to get a bell tent for the garden and looking for any recommendations or tips. It doesn't need to be easy to move or take down, as I'd like it to be up all spring/summer. Will primarily be used by a group of 12 year olds!

Bell tents are great but they’re not intended to stay up all summer long. You’ll probably get a bit of mildew.

hire companies sell off their stock at the end of the season. There are some good fb bell tent groups where you might pick up a cheaper one that you can use for the summer and not be too gutted if it doesn’t survive

We camp in our bell tent and I bloody love it. Super easy to put up and down. Biggest issue is getting it dry if it rains, but if in the garden sounds like you can just keep it up until it dries.

We have a separate ground sheet, which means we can take the sides up which is lovely on a hot day.

Is there anything you can do to prevent mildew?

We're experienced campers, but not under canvas and have no experience whatsoever of bell tents. I'm just trying to create a private teenage den really.

I love our bell tent, but if it is going to be up for long periods it will need regular reproofing or replacing. Tree sap can be a problem if it will be partially under trees.

If you’re leaving it as a semi-permanent structure then you need to be religious about daily guy rope maintenance, cleaning any mud or dirt off daily, and re proofing it at least once a month. It’s not necessarily a lot of effort but you do need to not neglect it.

Thanks - it may not happen tbh! Will need to rethink..
