What is the best non-memory foam mattress?

As the title says really. I don't like memory foam as it feels like sleeping on wet sand to me! I also don't like a very firm mattress.
I've looked on Which? But there are only 3 Best Buys which aren't memory foam. Looks like Sealy is the best option but I'm keen to hear from other princess and the pea MN-ers!

Ours is a Marks & Spencer wool and silk tufted one. Ours is firm but they do others. It comes with a down-filled topper. It was about £500 eight years ago and is on a divan base. It's so comfortable.

Oh thanks @Spanielsarepainless I was just looking at M&S actually! They have an offer on where you buy a bed and get a discount on the mattress

Vispring.

Very traditional. I did a tonne of research & lots of mattresses were compared to a Vispring, so I went & tried one. Amazingly comfortable.

Mine is one of the more expensive John Lewis own brand ones. It’s fucking amazing.

Dunlopillo without a doubt. Latex foam so not sprung, but not weird and sweaty and like lying on sand as you say with a memory foam one.

choosername1234 · 14/05/2022 21:10

I have an Emma mattress and it is fantastic

Cuddlywaterfall · 14/05/2022 21:13

Ooh some good suggestions here thanks all. I guess there will never be an outright winner as we all like different things. I've heard Vispring is amazing, do they do hotel mattresses? The best bed I ever slept on was somewhere highly unlikely like a Sofitel in Rotterdam Grin and I've been fantasising about that for around 10 years!

We couldn't get on with an Emma mattress so sent it back and went for a Bosh one - you know the guy from The Apprentice- best mattress we've had! It's an Aloe Vera one.

They used to have a couple of Ikea ones as best buys. We bought one five years ago and it is still pretty much as flat as when it was new.

We got an ikea one many years ago which was terrible. They have improved.

Reallyreallyborednow · 14/05/2022 21:19

I still think the best bet is to go to a physical
shop and lie on all the mattresses.

i also hate memory foam, but wasn’t sure what I did want. I’ve had m&s and john lewis mattresses and found them brilliant, but when I went in they just didn’t feel nice.

i didn’t want to spend ££££ on a “decent” mattress only to hate it.

ended up in Bensons and spend a good hour lying down and eliminating. Ended up with a latex mattress with is super firm and has made a massive difference to my back issues.

so yeah, get to a few shops and try.

mrsfoof · 14/05/2022 21:42

I bought the Premier Inn mattress by Hypnos. Bloody brilliant. It was about £500 for a double.

Moppincraxy · 14/05/2022 21:45

I got a new mattress with a gel layer on too. It's really good. It's from a local shop though so can't recommend a brand. I would also suggest going to a shop and spending some time lying on beds, it's really the only way to find out what you like.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 14/05/2022 21:49

If money is no object, ViSpring. If it is, Hypnos. We have the latter and are v pleased with it. My sister has one of their Premier Inn mattresses and says it is excellent.

This, we have the same but king size.

hellcatspanglelalala · 14/05/2022 22:00

Hypnos mattresses are great, but I'm also very impressed with the IKEA hovag mattress which is an absolute bargain.

Allthesefolks · 14/05/2022 22:06

Sealy Posturepedic

Tidypidy · 14/05/2022 22:09

Ours is an Airsprung pocket sprung mattress. Quite firm but so comfy. We have a separate topper from Dunelm on top of it too.

FeelinSpendy · 14/05/2022 22:15

Vispring or Hypnos. Be warned, they weigh an absolute ton though!

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 14/05/2022 22:38

The DC have IKEA Hoban, which are very comfortable. We've just got one of the new range called Vagstranda. Ours is firm, but I also tried the medium firm and thought that was good if you like a softer mattress.

Prior to this we tried lots of mattresses in the £1000-£1500 range in different stores, but couldn't find one we both agreed on. It could be a very expensive waste of money!

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 14/05/2022 22:39

That's Hovag not Hoban.
