What will you do instead?

Holiday in Cornwall for May half-term.
One night & two days at Legoland.
Then just lots of days out locally (live in SW) - we have NT & EH membership as well as membership to two local attractions (one zoo & one beauty spot). We'll do play parks, soft play, beach trips, walks, swimming, cinema etc.
will keep an eye out for local places running trails or special events too. Might do some outdoor theatre as well. And play dates.

StuckInTheMiddleOfNowhere · 14/05/2022 20:09

Were near the sea.
So local beach
country parks.
Local farm (ST holder so weekly possibly)
We have a few really big playgrounds with fields that entertain the kids with picnic for about 6 hrs!
Soft play
And lots of garden and pool days

Notdoingthis · 14/05/2022 20:20

Garden
Parks
Friends around
Mostly in the garden.

Skyeheather · 14/05/2022 20:29

We didn't go away last year, we were out in the back garden or went to the local park for a picnic and a go on the swings, went to the shops, to the library to borrow books, did some rock painting and planting, beach or coastal walk at the weekends, movie afternoon with popcorn if it rained, treated DC to the occasional magazine (keeps them quiet for a few hours as they like to work their way through doing everything), went to the local cafe for a milkshake or slice of cake.

We live NE so after a look for new places we are planning on
Mother Shiptons Cave
Stokheld Park
York Maze
Saltwell Park
Raby Castle
Druridge Bay Country Park
South Shields
Seaham Harbour
Richmond River

Also we have several beaches and parks to choose from so will do those on rotation. Plus a few children's animal farms, trampoline parks etc

I pray for good weather then entertainment costs less.

We have had a caravan break last month and have a trip away in UK booked for october and December (few days each)

Definately planning an abroad break next year

dreamyunicorn · 14/05/2022 22:28

I'll be working through it all apart from maybe 1 week off.

I feel so guilty already.

LeeMucklowesCurtains · 15/05/2022 07:03

Nothing.

Maybe a couple of NT properties if we can afford the petrol to get to there. Dh was gifted NT family pass for his birthday, but you have to be able to actually afford to get to the places.

We can’t afford days out or anything.

Its horrible but what can we do, it’s always been like this.

GoodVibesHere · 15/05/2022 07:59

My DC are older teens now, but when they were younger I stayed local, went to parks, fed the ducks, had picnic and built 'dens' in the garden, took them out on scooters, local library every few days, had ice creams at home etc.

Looking back it turns out those were their favourite kind of days and they loved chilling out at home and nearby.

EllieQ · 15/05/2022 08:07

Going on holiday in May half term, so we’ll be at home for all the summer holidays.

However, we’ll both be working and we don’t have any family nearby (my parents are dead; PIL live 200 miles away) so have no option other than a combination of annual leave and holiday club for DD (who is 7).

The plan is to have one week off at the start (DH) and end of the holidays (me), and I can flex my hours a bit so I’m only working four days a week for the remaining four weeks.

The weeks at home will be a mix of trips to the park/ library/ local museums, and a couple of bigger days out. Maybe a day at the seaside if the weather is nice.

Crocsandshocks · 15/05/2022 08:12

My kids are so over scheduled in term time we are going to do very little. Garden, beach, national trust, local parks, forest walks, meet friends. Also I'm pretty skint.

OneCup · 15/05/2022 08:15

I'd book a cheap premier Inn in another county as a base for exploring as a change of scenery can be nice.

Colycola · 15/05/2022 08:18

Never been away as a family as we are blended and just can’t afford it.

the dc dad takes them away but not this year. They are older though so am hoping they will arrange their own things to do.

I’ve booked some time off but everything is so expensive. My entire family everyone we know seems to go away except us. It sucks!

Colycola · 15/05/2022 08:19

Also I tried with the cheap premier inn idea it was still something like £360!

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 16/05/2022 15:08

Cinema
Farm
Theatre
Museums
Kite Flying
Art Gallery
Park
BBQ

Squillerman · 16/05/2022 15:19

Oh no idea at all. Already stressed about May half term because they only just went back to school and break up again for a fortnight on Friday. Literally been back for 4 weeks since Easter, it’s ridiculous. So I haven’t even thought about summer yet, need to get through this half term first.

It’s crazy isn’t it.
I grew up in another part of the country. It’s a touristy place, but not a great place to live your round and the actual town in from was and still is a complete shithole - not somewhere tourists go.

I’ve not been back in 20 years, the shithole town has a travelodge and I almost fainted at the price.

Lovemusic33 · 16/05/2022 15:36

We will just be having days out. We do usually go away but probably won’t this year. Luckily we live in a pretty area and less than a hour from the coast, there’s lots to do here so it’s not a issue.

FumingParent · 16/05/2022 15:43

Lots of swimming pool and museums if I can get the holiday pass when it's released. Walks around our village. Bike rides around the village. Hopefully play out with friends.

BeautifulWar · 16/05/2022 15:55

Swimming pool, day trips (seaside, museums, theatre, amusement parks, zoos etc.), baking, playgrounds, mini golf, shopping, water park, soft play, library, magazines/film/games days, cinema, garden games, paddling pool, crafts, play dates. We also have lots of local activities on but waiting to see what's on this year.

ThreeRingCircus · 16/05/2022 16:01

DH and I are covering three of the weeks between us with annual leave from work and we're planning some day trips (we're members of National Trust so that's always handy), playdates with friends, hopefully just chilling in the garden if the weather is nice.

For the remainder of the summer holidays we'll be using holiday club.
