Strangest Breakfast?

I tend to have leftover takeaway for breakfast eg cold pizza/Chinese/Indian. This morning I had a tuna mayo & cucumber sandwich. Probably my oddest breakfast was Black Forest Gateau the morning after my Auntie’s 2nd wedding. It was made by my Mum’s cousin, a professional chef, and was absolutely delicious.

I used to love cold fruit crumble for breakfast as a teen on a Sunday morning. had an ex who regularly had soup for breakfast.

Japanese have left overs for breakfast, its common

It's not that different. It's only in Western countries have we become conditioned to cereal etc for breakfast thanks to the likes of Kelloggs etc. In SE Asian countries and India typical savoury breakfasts are common and often more nutrient dense.

Yep! I lived in China for a while, and really enjoyed breakfasts of noodles and savoury pancakes.

I don't have set breakfast food. I eat whatever I want.

Clear broth with a big lump of slithery fat in it has probably been my strangest breakfast ( wasn't living in UK at the time).

AdaColeman · 14/05/2022 13:00

I often have cake for breakfast, quick and easy, essential factors early in the morning. Another favourite is a selection of cheese & ham with bread. Occasionally I have a chilled soup, gazpacho or vichyssoise, if there’s a bowl in the fridge, as it’s quick & easy!

Wallabyone · 14/05/2022 13:09

I think cake is fair game for breakfast!

I don't much like cereal, and it downs fill me up. But I do like toast, eggs, bacon, fruit etc. I personally don't fancy piles of noodles and veg for breakfast, but that's just me!

I have something that people in UK may think strange for breakfast all the time. Different culture has different norm.
Left over meals and cakes for breakfast isn't that strange to me at all.

I've definitely eaten leftover cake for breakfast before. Though I usually have croissants, occasionally weetabix.

I occasionally have those little fairy cakes with tiny pieces of glacé cherry (do those have a name?), you find in hotel continental breakfasts, when travelling abroad. So not much different

Mydogisagentleman · 14/05/2022 16:02

I had trifle this morning.
favourite breakfast ever was roti channi and Dahl.
I used to walk my DD to school, then stop at the cafe under our flats. Occasionally I would order 20 and take them home and freeze them so she was able to have it before school.
more often than not, I polished them off before she knew they existed.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/05/2022 16:04

I find cereal and pastries very odd breakfast foods, they're basically sweet air that makes you more hungry not less.

One thing I had this week was noodles with bacon bits, eggs and soy sauce, which was delicious.

I'll just have whatever I fancy and apart from omelettes, home made versions of the McDonald's breakfast wrap, or a bacon sandwich, it's usually just food, not necessarily breakfast food. If I'm going somewhere, I quite often take an egg mayo sandwich to eat later.

One of those old weight watchers frozen lasagne that could NOT be microwaved from frozen but I was hungover and desperate so ate it lukewarm at about 9am, vile

Diegofrompennyburn · 14/05/2022 16:09

I have fond memories of a family trip to France in my teens. One breakfast eaten from the boot of the car by the side of the road was fresh peaches and some thick but sweet sort of digestive biscuits.

I worked in SE Asia for a few years and eggs with chilli sauce was a popular breakfast. There was a hot food wagon I'd get breakfast from - a pancake with spring onions and then an egg broken onto it and the whole thing fried on each side. It was then rolled up, had chilli sauce squirted on, sliced and put into a plastic bag and they gave you a wooden skewer to pick bits out. I used to have hot, sweet soya milk to wash it down. Absolutely delicious.

At a B and B in Suffolk once we were served an English breakfast of sausage, bacon, egg, sweetcorn, and potato waffle with icing sugar sprinkled on the top.

Ooh I know what you mean, we call them bad soy biscuits for some reason!

I've never liked cereal, I was delighted when I went abroad and discovered other cultures just eat food for breakfast rather than 'breakfast food'!

Inextremis · 14/05/2022 16:41

My favourite breakfast is smoked cod with a couple of fried duck eggs, and chilli pickle on the side. Some people find that odd.

Oblomov22 · 14/05/2022 16:49

I too love leftover curry or Chinese. Diet Coke and something salty makes a good breakfast if you've had a drink the night before.

TuTuLemon · 14/05/2022 17:11

The best breakfast I have ever had was in Costa Rica, it's a rice and beans dish called Gallo Pinto and is served with scrambled eggs.
On our first day we were warned this was all we would eat for breakfast for the next 3 weeks (we were travelling to lots of different areas but it's THE breakfast dish everywhere you go) and were slightly concerned we would get bored of it but we didn't as it was so delicious! Some hotels/b&b's also had fruit and yoghurt but at others it really was the only choice.

Handyweatherstation · 14/05/2022 17:22

@TuTuLemon that sounds really good.

Greydogs123 · 14/05/2022 17:25

Dd had tomato soup and bread for breakfast this week, also, a cheese toastie. I’ve always said that if she fancies it and it’s not going to take long to prepare then she can have it for breakfast . I want her to be kept going until lunch and a bowl of cereal doesn’t tend to do that.

BrieAndChilli · 14/05/2022 17:31

There is a huge variety of ‘U.K. breakfast’ food - cereal, toast, full english with sausages bacon etc, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, porridge, etc that really nothing is ‘odd’

ODFOx · 14/05/2022 17:41

During the week our breakfasts are poor: db grab toast or a breakfast muffin if I've been baking but DH and I just have coffee.

On weekends I might have an egg and some mushrooms on toast or bacon.
But on holiday or any booked off day I make breakfast an event. My favourite is pho, but not everyone appreciates the early morning chilli pick me up, so sometimes it's ramen, or eggs Benedict, or royale, or florentine with loads of nutmeg , or kedgeree. When the DC were all at home I'd do a full English on a Sunday if they had a sleepover; until all the teen mates started staying at once when I had to downgrade them to egg and bacon rolls🙂. I love a big breakfast, and if we have the day off it means we don't have to stop for lunch and can get more out of the day.

EileenGC · 14/05/2022 17:51

I'd eat savoury breakfasts every day if I had the time to prepare and have them hot. I love microwaved leftovers for that very reason. Coffee is something I cannot stomach until 3pm though, and I know I'm strange there.

My favourite breakfast is completely normal where I come from. Toast rubbed with garlic, add lots of olive oil and freshly smashed tomato. Couple of slices of cheese next to it, orange juice, and if I'm feeling properly festive there will also be crisps and a cup of very thick hot chocolate (with virtually no milk, just the chocolate and a drop of water/milk). Why did I ever leave Spain? Grin

I agree it's nasty.

Workinghardeveryday · 14/05/2022 23:20

I have either, ham/chicken/tuna sandwich and crisps for breakfast every day.

I really enjoy porridge, cereal, toast etc - but I prefer the above.

never considered it weird?

always have a bite of cold pizza first it any in the fridge - with salad cream.

I don’t get why it’s weird?
