Eco gift for newborn / parents

Good friends have just had a baby boy.
Mum is very anti waste, pro recycling etc

I already contributed to collection for things like reusable nappies, biodegradable wipes and responsibly sourced/made clothes and bibs for the baby shower a month or so ago.

but they’re good friends and I just think it’s polite to turn up with a token gift, but I don’t want to give them ‘tat’ that will just go in the bin
any suggestions?
worst case I’ll buy a bottle of Prosecco but would prefer to get something else

Buy the baby a book.

Those types like this kind of stuff -

A book is always good. I like 'Each Peach Pear Plum' or 'Apple Pear Orange Bear' for babies

My close friend is very eco friendly and she bought my daughter some second hand clothes from a charity shop - they were great quality and very much appreciated.

Sgtmajormummy · 13/05/2022 18:57

I saw this child’s cutlery set on another thread and thought it would be a stylish gift.
You could definitely find cheaper and it would be a gift to use until the baby is big enough for grown up cutlery.

A home cooked meal for their freezer, for when they are too knackered to cook.

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 13/05/2022 19:43

Babipur is your friend. Great eco kids stuff.

Their baby toys and teethers are great. Grimms clasper balls are lovely.

faw2009 · 13/05/2022 19:48

I think if they are truly into environment / waste reduction, I wouldn't get new stuff. Quality second hand stuff would be better.

Muslins. You can never have too many

What a brilliant idea. Def filing this one away for future use. 👍

Things I would have loved :

. A nappy wetbag in a cute print (for carrying reusable nappies out and about)
. some lovely solid baby bar soap (instead of all the bottles)
. some good quality washable breast pads or haakaa ladybug milk collectors
. some reusable breast milk storage bags (if doing any form of pumping or collecting milk)
. reusable wipes (they probably have these to use with nappies already but its great to have a set for face / cleanups too)

Those are all the things I found useful at newborn age but hadn't thought to plan for - unfortunately had to buy them all myself as friends kept bringing toys and clothes!

The two best books for babies, I agree!

There are toy and clothes rental services but I think a voucher would be a bigger gift so yes nice book or wooden toy

badg3r · 13/05/2022 21:29

Books or a good quality second hand pram suit or overall

LittleBearPad · 13/05/2022 21:30

One of those wooden rainbows. They look like a rubbish toy but they seem to tick lots of eco boxes.

spottygymbag · 14/05/2022 08:35

A tree- native or one that can survive in a large pot, good for bees and birds etc

AdriannaP · 14/05/2022 08:36

Unless you know the mum doesn’t breastfeed, don’t buy Prosecco.

my friend is also very eco and loves the kidly stuff (as linked above)

SiulaGrande · 14/05/2022 10:59

I agree with home cooked meal, or a (reusable) bag of food they wouldn't usually get, even better if it's from a local organic veg place.
