Migraine with aura - sudden cluster of them

I’ve had migraines since I was 12 and I’m now late 40’s. I had them frequently up until late 20’s and then they tapered off to 1-4/year from my early 30’s onwards. I first got aura about 20 years ago but only a couple of times a year.

Now in the past 6 weeks I’ve had aura but no migraine/or only very slight pain (not enough for painkillers) - but I’ve had at least 15-20 attacks. I think this is known as ‘silent migraine.’

About an hour after the aura stops I feel so nauseous, sick and extremely tired for the rest of the day/evening. Sometimes really wiped out.

Is it worth mentioning to the GP? As a teen I was on preventative tablets as I had migraines so bad but never since. I had an attack yesterday lunchtime and I still feel tired and off my food.

I could be in perimenopause if that’s of any impact maybe.

It could definitely be hormonal changes - I had them when I was on a estrogen based pill and had to swiftly stop taking it. I'm also in peri and they have been starting up again.

Sounds like hormonal changes. I have a similar problem, GP was quite helpful and I have a tablet to take when the migraine starts, along with an anti-emetic to help the nausea. The combination works for me.

Yes could definitely be linked to menopause.

Would definitely see the doctor about this. They are disruptive and unnerving. Can be dangerous whilst driving. If you smoke or are on the pill (can't remember which one) you need to stop as it increases your risk of stroke.

Thanks all, perhaps it is hormones after all. Oh joy! I will contact the GP next week about it as I can’t go on feeling awful for so long afterwards each time.

@miltonj I’ve been off the pill for a couple of years now but for many years I was on POP anyway due to the aura history.
