Y6 Residential

DTs are off on their residential in a few weeks. They told me this morning they will be sharing a large dormitory with another school.

Is this normal? I feel very uncomfortable about it.

Are you sure the twins have got it right? Are you a very small school?
I'd be uneasy with that, more because of unknown adults potetialy coming in to deal with any issues over night than the kids.

But it also sounds like potentially a massive sleeping space. Say 15 girls from your school sharing with 15 girls from a different schools 30 kids in one dorm....

I'd check with staff, but it's probably too late to change your mind now without loosing your money, so I'd go with it, but express suprise.

Our local small schools all get together and do a joint residential, is it something like that?

our children went to PGL and they had en-suite rooms that slept 4 or 6. I would ask for confirmation of sleeping arrangements. I’m surprised you have not been informed before deciding to let your child go or not.

That seems strange and slightly concerning. Ours are in en suite 4-6 rooms & are not even allowed to take disposable cameras anymore because there are other schools there.

It is a small school and they are going to a PGL type place so I'm not surprised there will be other schools there but I thought they would be in dorms with the kids they know. I don't really want them sleeping a room with people they don't know and with the potential for adults to be in and out too that they don't know.

I will check with the teacher this afternoon.

I've never heard of this happening.

Honestly the risk assessment for a residential is hard enough as it is without having to factor this in! Hopefully they have got the wrong end of the stick.
