World most stupid injury - back of earring stuck inside my ear!!

Fuck my fucking life! I was taking out my earrings this evening to clean them and one side out really easily, the other wouldn't budge. Weird I thought, I'll just pull a bit harder. Big mistake. Big. Huge. the front of the earring came out but the back is still stuck and I can;t get it out!! I've tried everything, ice, trying to push it back out with the front bit of the earring but no joy. Asked my eldest to have a look and she said that the butterfly bit is actually in my ear and there's a layer of skin over it. What do I do? I know the NHS is on it's knees and I don't want to take a doctors appointment from someone who isn't a massive dick. There's no minor injuries units or walk in services near me. Has this happened to anyone else and if so - how did you sort it?

when i was younger my earring backs got stuck in my lobes, the skin sort of ‘grew’ over them 😮 ended up having to have them cut out unfortunately!

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 13/05/2022 00:11

I think that needs to be removed by someone with the right tools and training, otherwise you could get a horrible infection.

Squeezyhug · 13/05/2022 00:13

A trip to A&E I think op.
Stop beating yourself up about it though.

Maybe phone 111 as an alternative but I think they’ll send you to A&E if there’s no minor injuries unit near you.
I can’t see your local GP dealing with it.

This happened when I was a child. More than once iirc. Even when me/mum adjusted the backs daily. I ended up wearing sleeper hoops for years.

BlackeyedSusan · 13/05/2022 00:41

Nurse at your GP. They do dressings etc.

EarlGreywithLemon · 13/05/2022 00:46

Yes, that happened to me as a child, and unfortunately I developed an infection. A doctor had to remove it after a course of antibiotics. I’d call 111- they might be able to book you a slot at A&E so the wait isn’t quite as bad.

notangelinajolie · 13/05/2022 00:55

Minor injuries or a call to your GP to get an appointment for a nurse to remove it.

notangelinajolie · 13/05/2022 00:56

111 may be able to get you an appointment somewhere.

Battleshipgreen · 13/05/2022 04:34

Try a call to your GP in the morning, it might be something they can sort out there but will depend on the practice (my GP does minor procedures in their surgery, or the the treatment room could be an option). As it's really embedded then A&E is your best bet, it'll need careful, sterile removal so as to remove it cleanly and reduce the infection risk.

Soontobe60 · 13/05/2022 04:43

Do you have a local tattoo place that does piercings? They may be able to remove it.

Mumdiva99 · 13/05/2022 05:27

I watch rubbish lile pimple popping on YouTube. There are many videos of tattoo parlour piercers removing earing backs. You can try that if there is somewhere local.

mummyof2boys30 · 13/05/2022 05:54

Happened me twice as a child. My mum used tweezers to break skin and eventually got it out. Painful as i remember. Never got them pierced again

Oblomov22 · 13/05/2022 05:58

Nasty. Painful. But easily removed by a skilled nurse at your Gp practice. Because the skin that had grown over it, is new fresh and thin and will easily be able to be cut.

Mabelface · 13/05/2022 06:01

Another vote for a reputable piercers.

PainterMummy · 13/05/2022 06:09

Another one here who did it as a child. I was so scared of losing my earrings that I kept pressing the backs. Mind you, this was a very very long time ago. My DM did the same as someone above, dug it out with sterilised tweezers. But she then did take me to the doctor as I needed antibiotics. Once fully healed, I had sleeper hoops too. Never a problem again (but I do now replace backs with the larger ones with the plastic ring)

do ring 111.

hashbrownsandwich · 13/05/2022 06:11

Nurse at your local surgery. I am trained in ear care/irrigation and would be able to remove for you.

Tumbleweed101 · 13/05/2022 06:57

My daughter lost her whole earring inside her lobe and needed it surgically removed. I've refused to let her repierce her ears until she is 18 lol.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 13/05/2022 07:29

It'll need removing by a nurse or a medical professional - and you'll possibility need surgery and definitely antibiotics.

In future though, never let go of the back while removing the earring!

ImInStealthMode · 13/05/2022 07:35

Happened to me as a child and we went to A&E (as I recall we were on holiday, so local GP not an option).

They fashioned a small hook out of a paper-clip and sterilised it Blush

IStandWithMaya · 13/05/2022 08:02

Contact GP surgery OP. If it gets infected, you'll have a problem. Good luck.

HolyFuckingCuntBalls · 14/05/2022 10:40

Sorry for not updating - yesterday was a crazy day. I ended up calling 111 and they booked me a slot at A&E yesterday morning where two very lovely nurses removed it safely.

Thanks to everyone for being so kind x
