Bought a couple of dresses for my holiday from a an online clothing store. Returned 2 today as didn’t fit and received email to say they don’t offer refunds only store credit. Is this even allowed? I’ve had a Google and they have lots of bad reviews of people being told the same thing

Sports direct always did it. Not sure they still do. But they used to for sure.

Presumably this is shown on the returns page of their site, so you were able to check before you purchased?

No, it isn't allowed:

Sanchia Pereira from Which? Legal says: When you buy an item online you can change your mind up to 14 days after the item has been delivered. Where you have ordered more than one item the 14 days runs from the last item being delivered.

That is assuming that nothing has been personalised or its not swimwear or something and the hygiene strip has been removed.

No, because of distance selling regulations.

In a physical shop they don't have to give you a refund unless it's faulty.

Online purchases should have at least 14 days as long as you have told them within this time that you want to return them

Actually I scanned down that page a bit further and it seems that they can offer a credit note:

Should I accept credit notes for returns?

The retailer may have a returns policy stating that it will only give customers a credit note or vouchers for returns. But this must only apply where customers are looking to return an unwanted item.

Additionally, if you are returning your online order up to or within the 14 days from the day you received your goods, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations you can ask for a refund rather than a credit note.

The retailer’s returns policy also can't require customers to take vouchers where an item has been returned due to it being faulty.

The Consumer Rights Act specifies the rights that consumers have if products develop a fault and the seller can’t remove or reduce these.
