What is a sensible number of clothes to have?

I'm trying to declutter, piles of clothes sit wasked and dried but waiting to be ironed and I just buy another ironing basket when they get full but I don't want to donate/ sell too many and end up re-buying similar items.

I work from home and don't need suits for work any more.

How many jeans/ trousers/ dresses/ skirts/ tops/ blouses/ jumpers/ sweatshirts/ coats/ shoes is sensible, I've no idea any more?

I haven't counted all of mine yet, they are scattered in various wardrobes/ cupboards/ baskets/ storage bags at the moment.

Rather than a specific amount, I would focus on getting rid of things that you don’t like, haven’t worn in a long time, are damaged or if you’ve any of those unworn type of things that you keep hanging onto in case you ever slim back into them or regain weight to fit into them, etc.

Just keep the things you reach for regularly and wear often in your every day wardrobe/drawers and then a few outfits of formal wear appropriate for a few occasions I.E. a wedding, black tie, a funeral, an interview, etc. As well as some winter wear such as jumpers/coats/etc which can be vacuum packed and stored away.

Be very strict with yourself about getting rid of things that you won’t wear because they’re damaged/missing a button/whites gone grubby in the wash, etc. Unless it’s something that you can and will repair/get repaired.
