Judgemental

Why are dentists so judgemental. They say they are good with nerves people. But actually they are not. You may not have been to the dentists for years . You finally get the courage to go . Get told they are good with people that are scared. Then it turns out they are not good at all. They just spend the whole time lecturing you. Make you feel shit . That then leads to feeling you can't go again which will last years 😞

Also there are medical conditions and hereditary factors that can contribute to dental issues. But they fail to mention this and spend time lecturing. 😔

I’ve not had a feeling that my dentist has spent the whole time lecturing me. I’ve had advice, but it’s mostly nothing I don’t know like I should be flossing more. There are some dentists who are unfriendly and unapproachable, but I’ve not had an experience so bad I’ve not felt I can rerun for years (and I’m no dentist lover). Could you try a new dentist?

I was just reflecting really. I have found a good dentist hesxbeem awesome it's taken a long time yo get to this stage. But I was just with a friend who had a bad a horrible experience which made me feel bad and was reflecting a bit .

I’ve had a similar experience before. In my early teens, we moved away from where I grew up & I had a bad experience with the new dentist.

I’ve always brushed my teeth at least twice a day and I actually floss regularly however, I do have slight discolouration and thin enamel. I was told by childhood dentists that it was not a hygiene issue, my teeth and mouth were healthy, but it was most likely caused by needing a huge amount of oral antibiotics while my teeth were growing through.
Anyway, when we moved away the new dentist was adamant that I was lying and I could not possibly brush my teeth twice a day due to the discolouration, it wasn’t due to anything other than poor hygiene, my parents should’ve taught me to brush my teeth better and that my teeth would fall out if I didn’t change my ways.
I cried, my parents made a complaint, and I later received a letter of apology and a lollipop.

Your friend needs to see a different dentist within the clinic or find a new clinic altogether.

I wounder if theses dentist actually understand that they are often doing more harm than good. But in my experience so many seem to do it . I had one dentist that understood and I started to get sorted. Then she left so then my fear started all over again. So it took me several years to get the courage to go again. My dentist is lovely now and we are getting there. But I had to go private.

Absolutely agree. I informed my dentist last time I went that I’m quite scared of dentists, did not get taken to the dentist as a child/teen, I have acid reflux (and so am sick more than most people) and have suffered mental health problems which meant I didn’t take care of myself as I would have liked to - and she still made me feel shitty for needing my first filling at the age of 27.
I need to go back soon and I’m dreading it.
