Tadpole problem

So there's a bucket in our garden that was full of moss from the roof and then filled with rainwater. We appear to have tadpoles in it now. They seem to have eaten a lot of the greenery and now there are fewer of them, as far as we can tell. I don't think they'll have enough food. Is it okay to take the bucket and empty it into a local pond? I know you're not supposed to interfere with them but it doesn't seem right to just leave them to starve in a bucket.

they eat each other
I think tipping into your local pond would be okay.

You could regularly put a lettuce leaf in the bucket for them to nibble on. They eat each other when they get desperate.

Maybe we'll try the lettuce for a bit and see how it goes. The kids are fascinated by them, and I must admit I'm quite curious too, so it would be good if we could keep them.

What about the thing where they come back to their birth pond every year to reproduce? Will I have frogs sitting on my patio looking confused?! Maybe we should dig an actual pond, I'd love one.

Ooh definitely make a mini pond, it's great fun. We have a storage tub one and it's always got frogs in it. No tadpoles yet unfortunately! www.wildlifetrusts.org/actions/how-create-mini-pond

If you go to Sussex Wildlife Trust's site it has a section on rearing tadpoles which is very helpful.

Are they definetly tadpoles and not mosquito larvae?
If tadpoles, definetly make a little pond 🐸
