epi pen/adrenaline pen users

A while ago, local pharmacy stopped taking in expired epi pens. As a result of this, I've amassed a number of them over the past few years.

How do you get rid of yours? I'm assuming landfill waste bin isn't a good idea. One pharmacist mentioned a sharps bin, but wasn't sure it makes sense as it's a just a few pens a year.

Help please!

Apparently we are to call the council to collect them. I had previously given them in at the pharmacy. Currently have 4 expired in the medical cupboard! You could use them to train family members by stabbing them into an orange (idea I saw on an allergy forum!) and then call the council for collection

When I was pregnant i was prescribed heparin injections and the antenatal unit supplied sharps bins. I stuffed all my old epipens in there!

So my answer is - I don't know so I'm lurking here for the answer.

Definitely get a sharps bin, put your expired stockpile in and keep it at the back of a cupboard until it's full (however long that takes).

You could also ask whatever hospital you end up in after using them to dispose of them for you.

@Yarnasaurus thanks, I'll look into how to get a sharps bin then.

@Amammai @INeedNewShoes glad I'm not the only one that wasn't sure.

I'd heard about using them on oranges as practice. We have a trainer pen, bit might not be a bad idea anyway :-)
