Covid test before surgery

My 4 year old DD is having surgery and the hospital insist she comes in three days beforehand when a nurse Will do a PCR test on her. My DD is traumatised from these tests having to do so many beforehand. I know her and she will freak out and we will have to restrain her and even that might not work. These is causing me more concern than surgery. Does anyone have any experience in arguing against these? For the reference it’s at the Portland hospital

But you isolate after the PCR so she's a lot less likely surely? My trust won't do surgery without a negative test and you can't have had covid in the 7 weeks leading up. It's a few seconds of discomfort for her to be a lot more comfortable long term. I know all the information is up to date for my trust because I had surgery today(second in 4 weeks) and we had the cancel the first surgery back in January when I got covid again.

And they rang me last night to make sure I had been isolating.

Omg OP I really feel for you. My son would literally have to be pinned to the ground to be tested... literally.

Thank you for your messages of support. After pinning her down to get the PCR done so many times for nursery and school this is going to be fun. I get the Covid test etc but with omicron this feels futile unless you sit in a glass cage for 3 days with no contact with the outside world. Look at China today. But I am worried about the anaesthetics so will do more research on this. Just have to think about the long term benefits!

Had this situation last week with dc who has additional needs. Hospital said they would still perform the procedure but he would have to be last on the list. This may have been due to his additional needs though.

I understand your concern, but she's not going to get the operation unless you take her for the test. To reduce the chances of her getting covid, she'll have to isolate after the test, but if my DD really needed an operation and I didn't want any risks associated with that, I'd be isolating her a few days before covid test. Obviously anyone working will have to do that (but masks can be worn).

Hope it operation goes well OP.

Apparently you don't...not mentioned at all

Be wary of assuming not. I'd kept asking if needed to isolate before my Los surgery, and was told not, then literally 2 days before the pcr was told whole household had to isolate before the op.

And tbh, even if they hadn't, given the risk it poses for surgery for my child and the hospital I'd have isolated anyway a d would suggest that you do likewise.

As for getting her to do the test - bribery. Promise whatever...

I had an operation last week and had to do a PCR 48 hours before. I then had do another one when I was admitted. Rules seem to change so quickly just now

DH is having surgery on saturday. He had to do a covid test yesterday and is now pulling his hair out isolating at home for 3 days. It's bloody ridiculous, I can't understand why they don't do a lateral flow on admission. He's triple vaccinated and has had Covid.
