Can you recommend one to me please? Looking for a large hob to go in an island. Didn't go with kitchen supplier because I thought I'd try and source a cheaper one, but I'm nervous about going too cheap!

If you love the one you have, let me know why! Thanks!

Ikea one, very happy with it. Didn't get the cheaper one, about mid range.

Merrydance · 10/05/2022 22:03

You need to make sure it is powerful enough, I think 32 amp is more powerful, but you need to check. Induction hobs are prone to chipping so you need to ensure the glass in thick. I was told Bosch and Neff were best quality. We have a Bosch and happy with it, powerful and easy to clean

I've just got a Neff 5 ring induction & love it!

Not sure where 'adult' came from in title!

Thanks for changing the title, @MNHQ.

There are SO many Neff hobs. I don't know where to start!

My plumber advised not to get a plug in 13A one, not very powerful if you have more than 1 ring on.

We had a wire in Bosch in a previous house and loved it, going to have one fitted again later in the year when we get the kitchen upgraded. It has a power boost button which gets a pan of cold water boiling faster than boiling a kettle. All of the big name appliance shops sell them, go and have a look in store at how they feel they feel and then just do a google search to find the cheapest one.

lassof · 14/05/2022 12:54

my ikea one was fine

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/05/2022 12:56

Bosch

MaisyMary77 · 14/05/2022 12:58

I’ve got a 5 zone Miele one. It’s fantastic.

cheekaa · 14/05/2022 13:08

@Thirder @lassof Is it the Ikea Matmassig model? It seems to be one of the BestBuys from Which magazine?

BadAtMaths2 · 14/05/2022 13:12

We got a nerf flexi zone induction with down draught extractor. Good so far. Think about extraction with an island.

OrangeBlossom28 · 14/05/2022 13:21

I love my Siemens induction hob.

OrangeBlossom28 · 14/05/2022 13:22

It's easy to keep clean, very fast as it has a boost setting for each ring and very responsive.

prescribingmum · 14/05/2022 13:31

We have Neff with one Flexinduction zone and love it, would recommend. Had it for just over a year and no problems, not taken advantage of the many brilliant functions it has

ICanSmellSummerComing · 14/05/2022 15:13

What other functions does nex Flexi have?

We are thrilled with ours, don't know model name but it's IKEA best buy.

You can combine 2 areas to form a zone for bigger pans. It is brilliant for my roasting dish, I can cook on the flex space then stick straight in the oven

LittleEsme · 14/05/2022 15:59

Thanks everyone. DH and I love our cooking and 2 DD's are following suit. I'd love a larger induction hob with a flexi zone to cook using larger pans.

I'm also needing an extractor fan, but my builder hasn't allowed for a vented exit from the island to an external wall. Do extractor fans need to be piped outside?
Don't know whether to have ducts on the induction hob itself or buy an extractor fan that rises out of the island (and conceals when you're not cooking).

we had a hob that vented downwards, similar to a lifting one, but you’ll need ducting to an external wall put into the floor before it’s screeded.

otherwise have an unvented one….

Chasingsquirrels · 15/05/2022 07:53

An unvented extraction fan is pointless - it has no where to vent to so it isn't performing the extraction function!

Wheretheskyisblue · 15/05/2022 08:00

I love my bora pura with integrated extractor. Ours is vented under the floor but they also do an unvented option which is meant to be good.

ReviewingTheSituation · 15/05/2022 08:05

Following with interest as I want an induction hob too.

We have one at work, and one of the most annoying things about it is that it beeps like mad if you put anything on it (eg, if you get a roasting tin out of the oven and put it on the top). It's SO annoying. One of the big pluses for me is that it's a nice flat, heatproof surface. Beeping would NOT be OK! So if you do have one you recommend, does it have this annoying feature??

Re extractors - ours is on an internal wall, but the ducting goes through the ceiling cavity out to the external wall. So it can be done.

Lizziekisss · 15/05/2022 08:07

Miele 4 zone. Wish the controls were more responsive but otherwise fabulous.

LazyDoll · 15/05/2022 08:11

Whichever you go for besr in mind delays on appliances at the moment mean you could wait up to 16 weeks for one depending on model choice. You might want to check availability depending on your time scales. PS venting hobs all the way! NEFF or Elica.

LittleEsme · 15/05/2022 09:53

Thanks everyone.

Yeah, the vented extractor is a bit of an issue between me and the builder. He was told about the spec beforehand, sub-contracted the fitting of the under floor heating and screed to another firm, and my request was 'lost'. So, I have no option but to have an unvented extractor for my induction hob. Really pissed off.

I was toying with the idea of the extractor that rises out of the island on request because I don't want to lose the '5th' cooking area on an induction hob. I want it to be a large cooking surface area.

I know that the extractor (vented v unvented) is another thread, but I'm grateful for any advice you can give me.

NB - part of the set up of the kitchen design was to avoid cooking smells. My 17 year old unvented extractor hood is as useful as a chocolate teapot. Hate it.

Is your hob on an island or against a wall? Can you not vent/extract through the ceiling space?
