Commando crawling... how long?

DD been army crawling for a week or two. Shes 9 months next week.

According to my mother she should DEFINITELY be hands and knees crawling by now and I should be doing more to help her.

Did anyone else have army crawlers? Did they progress to 'proper' crawling easily enough or did you have to help? I'm inclined to just leave her, she seems happy enough and can get from A&B so what does it matter??

Ds never did proper crawling. He went from commando to walking... I'd leave her be.

My commando crawler finally Got on to her knees around 13-14 months - she was premature though and one half of a twin and much smaller than her brother.

I did 🙋🏻‍♀️

Your MIL is wrong btw, crawling isn't even a development milestone some kids never crawl.

My daughter army crawled at 9 months and then 10 months started commando crawling.

Then by 12 months she was walking around on her knees and even though she CAN walk unaided now (albeit wobbly) she still prefers knee walking at 15 months.

Ignore your MIL, why do people say things like this? So annoying.

DD2 currently does a weird commando crawl using only one arm, she's been doing it for about 6 weeks (she's nearly 1). She's pulling up and cruising round the living room as well, I think she'll end up toddling without any other sort of crawling as she can get where she wants to and seems perfectly happy with it.

I remember a little girl I knew from baby groups with DS was an amazing commando crawler, I'd never seen anything move so fast! She never crawled any other way and was walking by about 11 months (whereas DS was nowhere near moving by then). It's so funny how they're all so different but work it out in the end.
