Do you change your shoes for driving?

Was just reading about how you could get fined for wearing flip flops or sandals when driving!
I live in flip flops over the the summer and I’ve got to admit it never really occurred to me that I shouldn’t be driving in them….
Do people have shoes that they change in to for driving? Or do lots of you also just drive in flip flops?

Depends on what shoes I’m wearing. Sandals or heels yes.

Puzzled as to how being in an accident is worse if you have bare feet? I mean, you also have a bare face, bare hands and so on

Why are you puzzled? Pp mentions being able to walk over broken glass and run

Depends on the vehicle! I've got small feet, and for some things I've driven (the ancient Volvo and the Landrover Defender spring to mind) I needed a rigid sole as the pedals were really heavy, and I used to carry something solid (walking boots for the Landrover....) to drive. With a normal car, I'll wear sandals which are strapped on, but not flip flops.

That's hilarious. Why do you assume that a car accident is simply a case of a bit of broken glass that you need shoes to run across? Have you ever actually seen one?

Usually no, but I would never drive in flip flops (I don’t wear them though so unlikely to be an issue!)

In my defence, I never claimed I was being logical! Merely that if one has to get oneself (always assuming you've survived) and DC off the road or out of a tunnel in the aftermath of a collision, it would be far easier and quicker to do wearing shoes than barefoot 🤷‍♀️

Notajogger · 10/05/2022 20:53

Nearly ran over someone crossing the road once (he didn't notice somehow!) when the sole got stuck under the brake pedal. Now I keep shoes I can drive in under the seat and just change them if I'm wearing flip flops/sandals

RosesAndHellebores · 10/05/2022 21:01

I don't wear flip flops.
I've had no difficulty in sandals, even birkie type ones.
However, this could be an excuse to buy yet another pair of shoes! Grin

I'm learning to drive and I only wear a pair of really worn out trainers to drive in. They're the only shoes where I can find the biting point easily.

I definitely found that I had one pair of shoes I could drive in when I was learning. Many, many years later, I could find the bite point in clown shoes without thinking. But it really mattered while I was still learning to feel the bite point and figure it all out.

I’d put ensuring you’ve all got shoes on in case of an accident in the same bucket as ensuring you’re wearing decent pants in case you are rushed to hospital unconscious.

in the actual situation, you won’t give a shit.
